Rotary Vs. Linear my 2 cents

well i guess its been a little over a year since i converted my PCV-275 to rotary. and tonight, I changed it back for the first time to the linear faders.
Rotary:
Pros: Smoother transitions and more accurate control.
Cons: Slow and no way to hit the faders quick or sharp.
Linear:
Pros: More comfortable for most DJs. Allow for quick throws and snaps during mixes.
Cons: More shaky transitions, not as accurate.
So as its been said before so many times, its all about personal preference. For me, having the rotaries was a nice change and definitely got me more comfortable on a rotary mixer. However, my personal style (hard and techy) the linear faders just work better. I can snap those faders up and really slam 'em around to get the desired effect in my mixes.
I would say that for Djs who play more progressive stuff, rotaries are probably the method of choice. But for me, i think i'm gonna stick with linears from now on.
and on a side note: i also disabled my crossfader by simply unplugging it. i hated that damn thing and it always ed with me during mixes. i wasnt sure if i'd get audio without it plugged in, but i do. :D |

| but also depends on what genre your spinning...dnb would be horrible with rotaries imo... |

I want to try the rotaries for the DJM3000, but pioneer doesn't carry them here anymore. I figured it would be a reasonably cheap way to see if i liked rotaries, but not at the price of getting them from america.
i've heard a lot of people didn't like that kit for the 3000, so maybe someone here would care to sell their? |

| i use the 3000 rotary at this club i spin at sometimes. i hate it. they're not completely smooth. tbh, that's the only rotary i've ever used, but given i mix tech house, and sometimes use 3 decks, rotary = nono. not to mention i'm trying to learn some turntablism. |

why would 3 deck + rotary = bad news? seems opposite to me |

| when i say 3 decks, i mean it in the techno sense. sometimes i need way more sharpness than a rotary can give. |

I find rotary more accurate and easier to have things at different volumes for layering techier jams...
But then again, to each his/her own. |

probably more accurate, but nowhere near as agile. for instance (and not that i can do THAT) rotary would make this individual's life a living hell:

| i don't think Ableton controllers are developped enough to allow such agility for bringing a channel in and out. even if you just had to press buttons for it, you don't have that precision and speed that you do when you slam faders up and down. i don't think you could, unless you route it to a mixer, which then you would still need linear faders and it would be impossible on rotary :p |
