M-Audio Firewire Audiophile: knobs not working in Ableton

I just bought me this interface, and I'm loving it. Only one problem I have with it, is that the volume controls that are on it, don't work when I have Ableton Live open.
I've had some problems with installing too (I'm using Windows XP Mediacenter). As said in the manual, I installed the driver software without the Audiophile plugged in, and plugged it in when the computer was off.
The first time the volume controls seemed to have a massive delay on it. I would be turning the knobs, and only seconds later, the volume would change. After restarting this problem was gone, but then I realised that the controls didn't do anything when I have Live open. Installing the latest drivers didn't help either.
Any help you guys could give me would be great :) Maybe this is normal behavior for this interface, that Ableton regards the controls as MIDI controls, and that it expects them to be bound to some automation? |

I'm not sure, but there might be an option which lets Live control the volumes...so the knobs are bypassed...maybe you could try to dig into the options...
mine doesn't do it though...(although I don't have Audiophile) |

Hi mate! I have the same setup as you, great sound card BTW.
Now I had the same problem, and after a lot of fukn around and searching, I found out that some audio interfaces are actualy disabled by ableton live, so you cant a/b while ableton is running, and u cant use the knobs to conrol volume.
The only workaround I've managed is if you need to monitor another channel, press the a/b selector, just as ableton loads, you dont need to toggle between a/b during mixing/producing so thats ok.
As far as volume control goes, you just have to open the control panel, and change it with the mouse, not an ideal solution, but the only one that works for me.
I've just mapped abletons volume controls to my midi controler, so I set the maudio at an acceptable level, then use abletons internal volume control.
Even if u wanna change your latency, you actualy have to either shut ableton down, or disable your sound card to do this, pretty slack realy, but hey, the card is awesome so i guess u just put up with it hey?
Now if you do happen to find a solution to this problem, would u please post it up for me? |

but... but... I'm lazy :)
Anyway, seems this is a common problem. Guess I'll just move half a meter to the left to change my amplifier volume ;)
Thanks for the info :) |
