Okay, time for a serious response:

I have Vanguard. If you can direct me to a sample of the song you mentioned, I might be able to help you out.
Zombie0729
yeah sample us, i have about 200 bells in a sample CD too
Indavic
sorry for being a b*tch and not being able to upload a sample but if you head to www.audiojelly.com and search alliance you can find "distant planet (menno de jon interpretation)" and it starts right in the sample...

i'm interested to see people's suggestions to this. i could give you an FM synthesis solution, but i don't think that would really be much help for vanguard.
MrJiveBoJingles
If you have a synth like Vanguard that doesn't do any FM, you can still get a somewhat bell-like sound by using two or three oscillators and tuning one or two of them up by some number of semi-tones.

I made you a patch. It's not exact, but the basic sound is there:

Menno's Bells: MP3

Menno's Bells: Vanguard Patch

I used five and nine semi-tones (interval of a fourth and a major sixth) for the second and third oscillators of the patch.
