i just bought a pair of alesis m1 620s. when i play sound through my laptop, a very loud static sound comes from my monitors. however, when i plug the laptop out and run it on its battery the sound stops...why is this??is it something to do with grounding the monitors??if so how do i?? |

Alesis monitors are known to have very sensitive power supply units.
Try using a transient/surge protector and make sure the outlet is grounded. |

There's nothing wrong with your monitors, and there's only a few things you can do about grounding issues.
Using battery (of course) fixes the problem because it's running off of it's own power source, and NOT plugging into your house's dirty power.
You do have other options. Buy an external audio device. And use it that way.
And the last thing you DEFINATELY can't do anything about, unless you're a handy electrician, is find out where your grounding issues are in your house and trace wires about.
Try different outlets in your house. Maybe one will be less noisey.
The LAST THING I reccomend (because it can open your laptop up to dangerous power surges) is using a ground pin lift. |

i have the same problems with my m1 520 and still havnt come up with a solution. im even running throught a usb audio device.
one thing that does baffle me is the fact i get this noise wen pluggin my dj mixer into the laptop. but get noise through my moniters even tho the laptop is not plugged into anythin audio wise. as soon as i unplug the input it stops. happens with the onboard soundcard and external one too.
will a grouploop isolater solve this problem? :conf: |

Give it a shot. It can't hurt. Just hope you have nice constant power in your house. Any surges with out a ground connected to your devices and it's BYE BYE monitors. |

its actually a problem with your laptop. the only thing you can do is take the grounding pin out (lol) or just run it off battery whenever you want to do something. |
