| maybe I'll think about picking one up in a few years when they're $50 and I can pirate their games online |

I'm still predicting that Sony completely missed the mark with PS3 and will suffer immense financial setbacks for at least the next two years because of how they're handling it.
I have no doubt (as is well documented across TA) that Sony does indeed have a good eye for what gaming will become in the future - I just don't think this was the right generation to take the gamble on creating a gaming system that is far more than just a gaming system. I still think Microsoft is taking a solid approach... But, only time (the next year) will tell. |
As far as a "media centres" go, then Microsoft is doing a much better job than Sony. I think Sony is trying TOO hard to push this whole "high-defination" trend. MS's approach is much more developer-friendly |

I don't know yet - too soon to tell what Sony's approach towards media is going to be, or what will develop over the next year. I'll agree completely that I think right now Microsoft is looking great, especially with the addition of downloadable TV Shows/movies - But that doesn't mean Sony won't equal Microsofts "Live!"
As far as the high def trend, I agree, Sony wasted boatloads of money concentrating on it when I really don't think it's too important to the majority of gaming consumers.
And with regard to being developer friendly - There is absolutely, undoubtedly, no question what-so-ever that Microsoft and Nintendo have the clear advantage here. It isn't a small number of developers who are bitching about how hard it is to develop for PS3. |

the only reason i and many i know bought the original xbox is its inherent flaws and hackability. sony is at least accepting the challenge and trying to address the desire for those possibilities, while the 360 just launched early and MS hoped there werent enough hackers in the world to mod the 360...

Man Sony is really playing with fire making a relatively short life span product into such a high ticket item.
From what I have gathered from financial analysis readings this is certainly not going to bring them back in the green any time soon.
Massive layoffs, battery problems etc .... Sir Howard Stringer is still a bit of ways from saying the boat from it's wreck. |
Then again, Sony IS shooting for a 10 year lifespan minimum, which is a pretty decent amount of time. |

lol i swear the hackability isn't hurting sales at all though
me and my friend wouldn't have bought one if it wasn't hackable
hurting games sales, yeah, but meh
gotta love renting a game, ripping it, and returning it an hour later :p |

This is what they did with the PS1...but I don't know if it's gonna work here... Nintendo should at least be anticipating it this time around. |
