yeah, i am. people that are unable to look past their own personal taste to decide whether a game is good or not dont get jobs like that (or at least they shouldnt). there are plenty of games i havent really enjoyed yet i can still see their worth. anyone thats gonna hold something like doom3 up as an example of how/why all modern games suck, doesnt have a whole lot of credibility from where im sitting, and not because i think its a good game, but because its a good game per se. the ability to write un-biased reviews of something like a game is a skill that is hard to learn.

You don't have to be innovative to make a game with good game play and story behind it. My idea was pretty clear unless you're too dull to understand what I was writing. My idea was simple, they should stop competing against eachother with who can bust out the best graphics and slowly progress and make games enjoyable. 50-60$ doesn't grow on trees and where is the point of this IGN comment coming from?

as above.

that hasnt answered a single point that i made. its as if you think theres this well of innovation that all the games designers have chosen to ignore. thats not how it works. indeed, its the little peasants like yourself that now make up the majority of gamers, so blame your little mates that like their shiny new 3dfx cards and the gazilion polygons per second bench tests.

Doom 3 may have been an enjoyable title for you but then again it wasn't for me, what I posted is my opinion and I value it as my opinion not as the opinion of millions of people. If you're going to try to impose your hard-ass flaming behavior here because you simply can't handle someones input then don't post at all.

but im not judging it from my own perspective at all. thats my point. im judging it by its own goals and how it implemented the gameplay to achieve them. doom3 was never meant to be anything other than it was, and as such it succeeded strongly.

I wouldn't even want to work for IGN in the first place and I'm glad I don't.

what i was meaning is that you know all about the evolution of the gaming industry, and instead youre here to bore us all with your ignorant opinions (which is fine) about which games you like and which ones you dont, without providing the least bit of insight into a situation that has been occuring well before you stumbled across it.

basically the only argument you've made is you liked HL2 more than D3. woohoo! thanks for sharing. gee, graphics have become the selling-point for modern games? welcome to the 90s

Modern video games suck because modern gamers suck.

What I meant to get at was... Personally, I don't think IGN is all that un-biased in their reviews, nowadays. :/

Whatever.

Yeah, Mario World was amazing. Contra too.

But for every Mario World, and for every Contra, there were a dozen ty games. We remember these classics with an eye of nostalgia, while easily forgetting the 95% of games from the same era that wern't memorable at all.

Yeah, a lot of modern games suck. But things are no different now than they were 15 years ago. For every dozen ty games that get released today, we get a game like Ninja Gaiden, or Resident Evil 4, or Half-Life 2.
pkcRAISTLIN
^^ thats exactly right. games are a freakin expensive business nowadays, and developers know if their titles dont have the newest & shiniest graphics people of jupiterone's era wont even bother looking at them. its as much the gaming public's fault as it is developers that things are in the state of affairs they are.

Don't often frequent that place but I believe all the score-fixing is going on in the console section, mainly.

oh really? i spose its always gonna be more prevalent in the consoles, coz theres much stiffer competition, as the platforms are in direct opposition. do you have any evidence or something that i could follow up? id like to know what was going on.

I definitely remember having some... but the articles have mysteriously disappeared off the net. Mainly it was a few people following every review posted by huge game rating sites. They made graphs and got all technical and . I'm trying to google it now but I'm having a hard time finding any results. :(

its ok if you cant find anything, ill take your word for it, gaming conniseur mr yan ;) thats pretty disappointing really. ive played a ton of the PC games theyve reviewed in the last 18 months, and their reviews seemed pretty solid and honest to me :)

id blame the big companies more than anything. sony & microsoft wield a sword of almighty bias +10 ;)

I do understand where you are coming from pkcRAISTLIN, I may not necessarily know much about gaming or too much of the history or marketing. I do work for an HL2 modding team as a 3d Modeller and sound engineer for Resistance & Liberation.

I'm just annoyed by the fact that the prime soul of sales usually is graphics. Which don't get me wrong is a great feature BUT companies such as EA Games suck the big one as far as support on lower/mid end computing goes. I'm pretty much pissed off at the fact that cost so much money to get a game looking decent on the PC.

Didn't think this thread would necessarily start somewhat of a flame war, but oh well it is the internet after all.

i think ill buy a nintendo Wii so that i can play Mario World.. OH and MarioKart too :)
