There's a psychology behind that my dear ;)
It's not complicated in the least and I'm sure we are all aware of it (even if our awareness of the proceeding fact is totally unconscious):
PEOPLE LOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE to bitch.
;) |
|
|

| Nah, people love their DJs a lot and want to see them do well. |

That's a rather optimistic way of seeing things...
I like...I like...
But srsly tho, people DO like to bitch, even if their bitching is entirely and solely motivated by their desire to see their favourite DJ/producer do well.
IMO.
I'm one of those bitchers hehehehe :p |

If their dj stays the same or goes up, they bitch less.
If the dj goes down, all of a sudden the poll is void and for n00bs. |

The only thing Preach can do is to be god damn proud to see names like Daft Punk, Dj Hell or Chemical Brothers surrounding his name. The rest is not important, it is non-sense. Anyone who waste time trying to debate this list is loosing precious time doing something else.
The only thing that matters is that he plays a lot, he is well paid doing it, and people appreciate him. That's the real pay-off.
When Miss Kittin comes here and ask for 8,000 US, and knowing what she contributed to electro, she fckn knows she is higher in the list than Lisa pin-up.
You got to be beyond that list thing, or you will get depress. I would feel so sucky being Peace Division and not even break the 250 after such a great year.
I hate lists. |
I agree with much of what you said here Martin. The list (or any of these polls for that matter) have nothing to do with who is the 'better' DJ, but I admit I was really hoping Preach would have climbed up a bit from last year's ranking of 134. My reason for this is mainly because the DJ Mag poll is the most recognized list for this type of thing and it is undeniably great promotion for a DJ, especially in the early stages of his career (such as preach).
People will wonder how the heck so-and-so was listed higher than so-and-so, but it's honestly pointless to debate that aspect. There are DJs on this list that I KNOW actively promote voting for this poll, and not just for a month before the voting ends either... some like Bad Boy Bill seem to do this almost year-round.
I think years ago this poll was mostly criticized because it was essentially just reflecting the taste of a few thousand Brits, but now as it has become more global and with the ever increasing prevelance of the Internet, I think a big part of this poll comes down to marketing... plain and simple. |
