I have to sadly +1 this comment.. haha.. I spend more time listening and buying tunes that spinning in a given week.. Mostly cuz I work long shifts and when I get home I really don't feel like standing around.. LOL... and sitting is just NOT an option..:p

I think I practice spinning about three hours a day 4 out of the 7 days of the week.

I bedroom DJ only, but I spend about 4 or 5 hours a week on average, I'd say, behind the decks. It really depends on how late I have to work, how much homework the kids have on a given night, etc.

How old are you mate, if you don't mind me asking?

Well i still only have a mixer and Torq but atleast 3 hours a day!

I normally practice around 6 hours a week, give or take.

But I've had to ban myself from even touching my decks for the last 6 weeks so I didnt fail my exams. That was not easy to do... would have been even harder if I hadn't recently blown my amp.

Now I'll be getting back on the horse as soon as I go buy a new amp this weekend.

I definitely find it easier when I listen to tracks over and over and then go to mix with them and know them by heart. Kind of like studying for a test. Spend more time studying for the test then actually taking it. Though actually practicing would help me a lot more, I kind of like to save my hearing.

I find I actually get bored of tracks this way and thats also why I stopped buying tracks a few a time. Now I buy around 15-20 vinyl a month in one go and I find I enjoy mixing loads of new fat tunes more than mixing my old stuff. And buy the time your bored of your new vinyl its that time of month again and you buy another load :D

I used to mix around 2 hours a day almost religously after work but Ive been off (soon to change :D) the last 2 months and Ive been mixing upto a total 5 hours a day.

Anyone get withdrawal from there decks? If im away and think about mixing I then cant wait to get back on em. I dont call it practice either because im not exactly practising for anything. I may be playing out soon but I havent changed when I mix. I mix because I enjoy it and love listening to the new tunes I got :D

Yeah. Theres nothing like getting 10-15 new tunes then mixing them. Then you always get 2-3 tunes that knock you on your ass cause you only heard samples of them, and they sound 100 times better on the sound system. Or then you get the one tune you didn't even see coming that gets you jumping around like a mad man. Gotta love that! Yeah, I get bored fast with the tunes I've played a few times. I am constantly getting new music to keep it fresh.

Rock On,

Im jealous - these days I'm lucky to get a couple of hours per month to spin due to work & kids :(

We recently had another boy & we had a big bust up coz I refused to turn my deck room into a nursery :D

i used to be on mine about 3 hours a day but since i began producing last year i mix about 2 hours a week. and ive only 1 cdj800 mk2 and two turntables and due to my refusal to buy new vinyl all my old bores the balls outta me. so when i buy new tracks off digital download sites i never get the chance to mix them properly.

cant wait until i get another cdj :D

Well I find listening to tracks over and over a good way to memorize where everything is, that way when you pick a tune while mixing, even if you haven't heard it in a while, you'll know it better off hand. It's kind of an audio-memory recall, as you know how the track is structured, kind of like when you study something for a test and have to recall it without notes. The only cheat sheet is the Wave display on my CDJs, but sometimes it's better just to use your ears and memory.

I spin about 2-3 hours MAX a week. I've been spinning for exactly a year now and have made great progress.
