...I mean, look at how lame Harper's administation has been so far

I'm not a fan of the Conservatives by any means, and certainly not of Harper, but the new government is actually doing some good work. Income trusts alone deserve some credit. And if this new 'prove you're not a dangerous offender' bill goes through, a lot of victims of serial criminals will dance in the street.

Now, before anyone says "innocent until proven guilty...blah, blah, blah", I think once you've been found guilty of three seperate violent crimes - especially against children - you should have to explain why you should be allowed to live in our society. I say we scrap the gun registry and use that money to open a phedophile gulag on Baffin Island.

******s.

don't say "blah blah blah"...the presumption of innocence is fundamental to our justice system. Just because the "dangerous offender" status is difficult to have placed upon a criminal doesn't mean the onus should be shifted to them. If the legislation is flawed, address it. This is a b.s. feel good intiative meant to pacify conservative voters...just like street racing and increasing mandatory jail terms.

as for income trusts...while the correct path, do the ends justify the means? Tough call. It's widely judged to be the right decision, no doubt...but explain that to those who have collectively lost billions as a result. I think the gov't could at least have been a bit more contrite about their about-face...but whatever.

Ever see those tv shows where people who have wild animals for pets get attacked? Nobody knows what happened to set the animal off, it's just their nature. That's why some of the more dangerous ones are kept in cages. Nobody assumes that a tiger is going to stop attacking and killing other animals just because he got locked up for a while.
I don't assume that any sick fcuk who rapes little kids is going to get better either. Put them in prison for a while until they become tough as nails, angry, lonely and overcome by this primal need to satisfy his fetish. Then, release them and let them walk around in public...guess what happens.

I disagree with you completely. If you get sent away for crap like that several times, you are not, nor do I think you capable of, being rehabilitated. I say shoot 'em, but we can't do that so lock 'em up instead. For ever. And I think anyone who's child has been assaulted by a repeat offender would agree. It's great to have a high moral ground, and I respect that, but this is people's lives we're talking about and it's time to be pragmatic.

I would rather see some sicko locked up for good, at the peril of some 'fundamentals', than have one child grow up and try to live a normal life with that kind of anguish imprinted on them. These laws were written a long time ago and times have changed. Lock 'em up.

I'd like to hear what other people think, too.

we do not have napoleonic code law in canada. Only in Quebec (LOL at my funny)

Anyways i dont agree with guilty until proven innocent even in the worst cases. But what i do think should be done is that anyone convicted for this crime should face a full sentance with no exceptions for anything. And that the time given should be increased.

you're talking about people who have raped children...which is but a small % of people who the prosecution would seek to be deemed "dangerous offenders".

I agree with you...I have no problem with locking someone up and throwing away the key if they *repeatedly* commit such a disgusting crime. Everyone (within reason) deserves a 2nd chance...but this 3rd and 4th chance b.s. at the expense of multiple victims? that.

What I'm saying is that the solution is to address the law itself concerning rape of children...i.e. toughen it and scrap parole (or release at all) for repeat offenders. Just don't with a fundamental principle of our legal system and reverse the onus onto the accused...that's a cop out on behalf of the gov't and, to me, amounts to an admission of their failure to create adequate legislation.
