I'm saying that there are many other factors which cause me to place a different value on having an expensive suit.

cost/opportunity analysis ftw ;)

Indeed there are many factors to consider and I assure you I consdier them, just to differing conclusions. We just don't think alike.

I agree, however, you totally missed the point. What one deems to be decent is dependant on what one is used to, therefore, what qualifies as decent is subject to one's tastes, demands, and experience. TO PUT IT SIMPLY, THE DEFINITION OF DECENT CHANGES DEPENDING ON WHO JUDGES IT.

fair enough

I just thought you are pressing the point of tailored suits, not the decency argument:)

Anyhoo...

i was over dramatizing it, for comedy

sort of like how couples argue about the stupidest things, making pointless drama, which is comedic on its own

And no, it probably wouldn't fit...though it might provide some good motivation to keep going to the gym!

i don't think everyone can afford "custom tailored suits" especially if they r just starting a career in the corporate sector or have an average wage job with a formal attire in their office

actually i heard different. custom made are cheaper than designer and will fit you perfectly.

This guy from Hong Kong (http://noblesuit.com/index.html) comes to Toronto twice per year and sets up shop at the Sheridan hotel. Watch for his ads in the business section of the Toronto star/Globe & Mail.

You make an appointment with him, go to the hotel and he measures you up and gives you a selection of 700+ fabrics for the suit.

2 Suits + 1 Jacket with Pants or 3 Suits costs about $2000 US$. This is a great price for a custom suit and the quality cannot be beat (this is cheaper than most designer brands in Toronto).

---------

If you go to Asia yourself - the price is about 60% of the above.

Thailand seems to be the best deal on custom tailored suits. I have one associate who got 2 suits, 1 blazer, 3 shirts and a top-coat (all custom tailored) for $1000 US (including shipping) in Bangkok.

The best thing about the Asian tailor houses is that they keep the patterns on file - so you can just phone order additional suits (they Fedex a few fabric swaps for you to choose and then you phone order them).

I say it's not so much about where the suit came from but how it fits and how the woman wears it. You can work it if it's properly tailored and you accesorize it appropriately. That way, you can make it work for many different occasions and also bring out your personal style.

^^ Amen to that! Also it's important to wear clothes that FIT YOU RIGHT. If you are a size 13 do not try to squeeze into a pair of size 7 pants.
Someone had mentioned Reitman's earlier..they have some great work pants (not suits exactly) and some great work tops that do not cost a fortune..plus very cute accessories.
