She picked some gay ass chick movie. I quickly felt a sleep. Which i hate beacuse if your going to go to the movies and fall a sleep, i see that as a waste of money. I could've done that at home.
She was pissed of at me for not watching it with her in the end. But i told my self it was my fault for leting a her pick a movie.
:wtf: |
you could have sat in the back row and used the romantic moment to bukake in her face. Then she'd be ed haha |

It honestly has nothing to do with the fact that it is a "chick flick", or rather, a movie that the media and Hollywood has prescribed to us as something women like because, well, women just like that sort of thing. I find most films of this genre to contain:
- Boring, flat characters that often-times set an unrealistic standard for emotive expression and sappy, saccharine views on "love" and relationships.
- Overly simple story lines that more or less display what are "perfect" people in seemingly un-perfect situations that really have no relevance to the reality of similar situations and relationships.
- Unrealistic standards for the course of relationships - as Mezzir was getting at, there is always a happy ending - because that is exactly what people want to see. Pure crowd-pleasers just don't have a place in modern movies. It's akin to harlequin romance novels as far as cheezy escapism goes...
This is certainly not to say that every movie having to deal with love and relationships is bad - I think that is a common misconception amongst guys and it really is too bad because guys' prejudice in that respect can cloud their views when watching some movies. A few movies I've seen that come to mind are...
A Very Long Engagement
Garden State
Harold and Maude
Lost in Translation
These are just great movies that I think that everyone should see and that most viewers will really get a lot of enjoyment out of if they just left their "ew, chick flick" mentality behind. However, in the case of most romantic films that are released with the hottest actors and actresses and the latest hair styles and clothes and coffee house soundtracks, I must agree with most guys here - chick flicks suck. |

see I gotta say I didnt enjoy lost in translation that much at all. its a wellmade, artsy film but it from what I remember (i watched it a while ago) it was way too pretentious and it just seemed to drag on and on. |

Yeah, the directing was different than a lot of other films I think, so it's easy to see how some people wouldn't really like it all that much.
But I think the themes and plot of the movie stand up very well - 2 people meeting at somewhat inconvenient times to meet somebody else in their lives...just seemed quite realistic, and the characters were played with a lot of actual character unlike a lot of other films having to do with the subject. Just seemed to be a very bittersweet tale to me - and that seems to be one of the most accurate portrayals of love that there is. |
