MY FAVORITE ROBOT
With a decade of experience behind the decks and a life-long passion for music, Jared Simms aka Simmz and Voytek Korab aka Voytek have come together to create My Favorite Robot, a new tag-team DJ-ing venture. This collaboration brings to the decks a unique mix of deep progressive house, tekhouse, minimal tek and electro.
Born of the Montreal club scene in the 90s, Simmz and Voytek became fast friends and the synergy was unmistakable. Immersed in a city with a dynamic underground culture they were exposed to a wide variety of sounds that gave them perfect framework. Their tastes differ, but they blend their styles seamlessly–never choosing the same records, but always in tune to what the other is playing. Their spontaneous approach both flatters the music and creates a non-linear feel to their sets.
Voytek has become a recognized name in the electronic music scene, working with renowned DJ's Fred Everything, Kevin Yoast, and Krista. He made his first international appearance in Warsaw at Blue Velvet and has since traveled across Canada spinning at Halifax's Playhouse and Reflections, Montreal's Ulounge and a variety of exclusive parties. In Edmonton, he was one of the featured DJ's for the Bliss and Nexus events which packed in over 3000 partiers at each show.
Simmz was a bi-weekly resident at the Melbourne club Minx during a year abroad in Australia. He also spun a New Years Eve extravaganza in Thailand as the headlining DJ for an audience of over 7000 people.
In 2000, Simmz launched St Remi Productions in Montreal which has since produced ten premier events. Within St Remi Productions, My Favorite Robot has appeared at events such as Flight 617 and the highly acclaimed Jungle 1, 2 and 3. During 2003, they were featured DJ’s at the monthly event "Deep Saturdays" in Montreal and more recently, headlined at Montreal's notorious Stereobar.
Like all other genres of music, electronica is recently emerging from the depths of the underground and rapidly beginning to saturate the mainstream market. DJ’s are playing what the crowds want to hear and the individuality and uniqueness that is such an integral part of the movement is being lost. My Favorite Robot has chosen to stay true to themselves.
