Ableton using lots of system resources at only 3 layers...

First of all, my computer is pretty good... Core 2 Duo E6400... 1 GB RAM... EMU 1212M...
I dumped a midi of Mike Foyle's Shipwrecked into Ableton, and let it play with one of my VSTi's... that alone took up 30-40% of resources.
So I decided to see what would happen if I added a few more things... I added two layers of percussion, and then duplicated the midi track and dumped a whole bunch of random effects into both midi tracks just to try and max out the resources... was able to get it to 80%... one more duplication of the midi got it just over 100
Knowing that I could have songs one day that are 10+ layers deep at any given moment with effects... seems like a problem, although I've been told that what I have in my computer is plenty. :conf: :conf: |

sounds like youve got the wrong sound driver selected, double check the asio is being used. |

asio is selected, no luck :( |

Any resource hoggers running in the background? |

eeehhh don't unless you know what you're doing. i have 2 gig's and almost exact set up and have about 10-15 things running at a time.
i'm going to take a wild guess here but are you using legacy cell? can you not deep freeze anything?
also take a screen shot of your rax so i can see |

No. |

I dont think your cpu speed is the problem but on the topic of overclocking, the possibilites of the e6300 and the e6400 look pretty good and they can run much faster even with stock cooling. If you know your stuff when it comes to computers take a look. If you dont know your stuff then dont try because overclocking voids warrenty. |

Thanks for all the replies! Ableton is the only thing that I am running... the VSTi I am using is Blue
This is the midi of Shipwrecked with a couple sine wavs generated by blue (the third saw was accendently turned on when I did this example but it doesn't effect the result). No FX except for reverb and chorus in Blue. As you can see, single layer running results in roughly 30% usage.
