where to begin... someone booked the main room last minute so the trance party had to be moved to the Adrenaline room. Since Area 51 is so large, they lease this room out. At around 1am the person leasing the room wasnt happy with the amount of people. Without the club owners consent, he came up to the booth and told Ivan to shut off the music. He then proceeded to kick everyone out of the room. This caused some serious tension between him & the promoter. The promoter then arranged for Suzy to spin in one of the other rooms. We rounded up the crew and off we went. As DA stated, it was humorous to say the least. I felt like a fish out of water. I surveyed the scene and noticed no cd players in this room's dj booth. These days, Suzy plays mostly cds due to the high amount of mp3 promos she receives. She does however always have a few vinyls with her, at least an hour's worth. The problem was having no cd players meant Suzy would be seriously limited with her selection of music. This was not the place to not be able to choose from your entire cd book which contains roughly around 1000 tracks and be forced to use only 10 records. If it would have been a normal crowd, the records would have went over well, but you do not go from the sound they were playing to peak time trance bangers. So instead of setting ourselves up for more disaster, we decided it was best for her not to play. We ended up hanging out with the remaining TA's drinking and having some good times. It was cool to hang with you guys again despite the musical torture we had to endure. Our only savior was when the light guy took over the decks and started playing house. The house music actually sounded good compared to what was previously on but as always, it never holds my attention for more than 15 minutes. Shortly after that, the previous dj went back on with his eclectic mix of randomness. Thanks very much to all those who showed up last night. Your support was what kept the night from being a total disaster.
As far as the club goes, i have mixed feelings. Once a club gets a bad reputation for stuff like shootings, events falling through, etc, its very difficult to recover from the curse and a rebuilding process is needed. The past 2 times Suzy played there, its been during this rebuilding process. The 1st week it was still Metropolis but they were closing. 2nd time the club wasnt even offically open yet, only for our party. Friday was the first time under the new name Area 51. After Friday night's incident, the rebuilding process has now taken 2 steps backwards. It's frustrating on many levels. Not many clubs in Miami are willing to have trance events unless its with PVD, AVB, Ferry or Tiesto. Many of us are tired of seeing those same guys all the time. Area 51, even though its reputation is shot, is scheduled to bring in Edgar V in 2 weeks (along with Suzy and hopefully Eric & Ivan) + On New Years Eve they are supposed to have Talla 2xlc & Suzy. Unless you guys are content with settling for the same top trance djs a few times a year at space, or hopping on the house bandwagon, I say support your local trance events even if they are held at a less than desirable location such as area 51. |

I disagree with this statement. Insert any genre into Friday nights equation and you get the same answer. Poor promotion = a poor turnout. Evidence of a dilapadated and desperate trance scene in MIA would be the day Space is empty for one of the top 5 trance guys, not when 1 room of Area 51 gets shafted by some nimrod. |

the last part sounds great and sorry i left but when i got there [pretty early by 11] Relik wasn;t even spinning. It wasjust a cd playing because the eqipment was wacked out.
Sux I waited till 12:45 to see if u ppl would show to atleast say Hi since I assumed that nothing was going to happen.
I really don't think the promoting is good. Pretty much only TA's were there. They need to get a street team passing out flyers or something.
I wish u and Suzy the Best Of Luck!! I will gladly go again but next time it will be later then this last time.
Talla + Suzy sounds fuking A-MAZ-ING!!!! CONFIRM ITTTT |

Sux what happened...thankfully Ivan got to play but I mean it was a ty thing to do to Suzy. I kinda figured it would happen because it was dead in there. Oh & going to that other room & listening to the top 40 mega mix was interesting :p
All in all it’s a shame how people get treated. |

the fact that trance can ONLY get booked ON a FRIDAY nite, proves my point. and in case u havent noticed, markus no longer works for space, ferry and armin only play on a friday or sunday nite. and the room is mildly full at best with a bunch of kids who share waters and cant drink. besides conference i cant remember the last time a trance nite got booked at space on saturday. even for a BIG NAMER. the only 'trance' dj that will get booked on a saturday@space is tiesto, and that relationship is severed.
no offense bri, i live here, and c firsthand how the trance scene has slowly deterioted down here since 03'-04', you dont. yes the lack of promotion and poorly organized venue didnt help, but the fact that trance has been delegated to friday nites is just more supporting evidence of a shoddy scene. and again, school is out for today:wtf: |

if she wants to play a venue that is about as big as my bedroom closet, than by all means. but if the money is right for her, than who cares, she should rock it out. |

You made some valid points before and the trance scene is by no means even close to what it used to be during its peak in 1998 - 2002. Yet I must disagree in a couple of respects. Oakie dropped trance this Saturday @ a packed Space, and everyone ate it up. He also dropped trance @ Mansion about a month ago which was packed as well. PVD and Edgar V are playing Space this Saturday, and I'll bet you that club will be packed as hell. AVB and Markus are playing Space in December on a Saturday, and I predict no trouble packing the club. So there is trance on Saturdays, just not that often, no argument there. And the trance events at Space recently on Fridays (Ferry and Armin) have been packed to the extent of people complaining about it.
It is true ONLY trance is booked at Space on fridays, and they NEVER do house events that night. But I actually interpret that differently than you do. Space regularly does House on Saturdays. But Space will always be packed on a Saturday no matter what music they play, whether it be House, Trance, Rock, Hip-Hop, Polka, Square-dancing, etc. Space has an established Saturday night that cannot fail no mater what they bring in as talent or what type of music they play on that night. Case in piont, the mainroom was packed as hell this week, and they were playing hip-hop. But Space barely ever opens on a Friday night, and has absolutely no following for Fridays. Yet whenever they do open on a Friday night it is to bring in name trance DJs. The reason why is simple, because those are the only DJs that can bring heads into Space consistently on an off-night like Friday. And this way LP doubles his profit. They never have dared to even risk bringing a name house DJ to a Friday night party @ Space, why not?? They only bring them on Saturdays when the club is packed even if Howdy-Doody or Ronald McDonald is playing. Maybe because they know that at the end of the day the trance DJs will better fill the club on a Friday night, which lacks any established following. In fact they tried a house afterhours at Space on Fridays when the new location first opened, and it failed miserably.
So trance is not dead at all, nor is the scene. It is just facing a lot of resistance from clubs & promoters in MIA, and a fanbase which often-times is too busy arguing amongst itself about the most un-important issues rather than supporting trance DJs that have tried to stay loyal to the genre.
Peace, and see U at PVD & Edgar V this Saturday. |
