| im looking for a new monitor and amp for my room, but i dont know what to get. im looking to spend less than $500 so make it kinda cheap. also, should i get speaker stands for the speakers? or could i just have them pointed to my ears. |

| You don't really need monitors in your room, just normal speakers will be fine. You only really need monitors in a loud club environment, where the speakers are pointing away from you and there is a delay before the sound gets to you. In your room there would be absolutely no noticeable difference in time delay in getting monitors that point towards you. |

Never judge by the size. ;-) Besides, they have an 8" driver in them, they will be PLENTY loud even without a sub. |

I think you would be MORE than happy with just the JBL's, no need really for the sub. Those JBL's are nice speakers and with a quality amp and proper placement, it will be fantastic! |

| No, you definitely won't need a sub for bedroom purposes. I hava a pair of speakers with pretty much the same spec as those JBL's... except I paid like £20-30 for them! Don't buy those JBL's, for god's sake! $400??? WTF! You can easily pick up a good pair of speakers in a secondhand store or whatever for dirt cheap. OK, they probably won't last as long as the JBL's once you start caning them, but hey, you've saved about $350, so just buy another set! |

I like my cerwin vega LS12s... very nice, and cheap for what you get!(i paid $180/ea)
as far as an amp, it really depends what you want to spend. do yourself a favor and stick away from the consumer junk with built in reciever etc etc... get an *AMP* not a reciever. look into something used and professional.
