Anyone know or have any ideas about how to recreate the bass from Shivers?

(first time including a link - hope that worked)
The first question is what synth--hardware or soft--would produce this sound? I own a Virus TI, but nothing I've tried with it has produced it. I have a feeling I just can't get that sound with the Virus, but I don't know that for sure. I certainly don't know this synth inside and out yet.
So the right synth is the starting point, but also any production hints would be great too. For one, that kick is really coming through strong, so my guess would be some sidechaining going on there.
Thanks in advance for any insights. |

First of all, that file host sucks. When I close a pop-up (which shouldn't be showing up in the first place [I shudder to think what it looks like in IE]), it should not produce another pop-up.
Onto the bass. That's not really dependant on the synth you use. Its just two saws an octave apart, overdriven a bit, then EQ'd and compressed all to hell, plus some reverb. There's also some sidechaining controlled by the kick drum. |

It doesn't show pop-ups every time. I went there again and lo, received no pop-up. Go there enough times, and I bet you'll get bogged down with more than one. (My pop-up blocker told me it had blocked a pop-up, then a second one showed up.) This is what I meant when I said I shudder to think what it looks like in IE, because IE 6's pop-up blocker sucks ass. |
