I'd have to agree with Zombie0729. Most of the prebuilt systems I have bought have been much more stable than the ones I built myself, and I've been building them for over 10 years. In addition, you can usually get everything you want in a prebuilt Dell or similar system for about the same amount of money or even less than what you'd spend on a custom built machine. Check out some of the Dell systems, they are pretty reasonably priced.
Again, these are just my experiences, YMMV (You Mileage May Vary) |

| I dont really see anything on the Dell site that is similar to what i want. I want something like the top of the line Mac Pro. Dual Duo core...3 ghz. If they made something similar i would be very tempted to buy from them. |

While the new Core duos are certainly the fastest, they are also quite a bit more expensive than an AMD dual core (A64X2).
Keep in mind that PCIe can give audio fits with some mobo chipsets - check before you buy anything that you intend to buy yourself. That is the one thing about pre configured music PCs - they have all the bug worked out (of course that costs more $). |

if you want a computer thats so loud and innapriopriate for music production... buy a dell ;)
you're never going to get real quality unless you've built it yourself. dell aren't going to use a top of the line psu, let alone fans or cases. it's all cheap crap. hence the cheap crap price.
but it's up to you i suppose :D
also with prebuilt computers, you're always going to be limited to their cruddy preinstalled OS. not fun! |

in regards to the discussion about prebuilt pcs vs homebuilt, i have to say that building it yourself is way better.
as mentioned, prebuilt dells and the like have crappy components and preinstalled software/os. the computer im using now was built bymyself, and it is still running VERY strong for 6 years now. i've only had to change the psu and the HD, and i was able to upgrade the cpu just for kix. so basically, if you know what you are doing, then i think that if you build your own you will definetly get somthing that will outlast and out perform any prebuilt dell:D |
