| quote: | Just off the interstate, a couple of junctions down from Cincinnati's international airport, over the state line in rural Kentucky, the finishing touches are being put to an impressive-looking building. When it is finished and open to the public next summer, it may, quite possibly, be one of the weirdest museums in the world.
The Creation Museum - motto: "Prepare to Believe!" - will be the first institution in the world whose contents, with the exception of a few turtles swimming in an artificial pond, are entirely fake. It is dedicated to the proposition that the account of the creation of the world in the Book of Genesis is completely correct, and its mission is to convince visitors through a mixture of animatronic models, tableaux and a strangely Disneyfied version of the Bible story.
A lot of that money is going into the animatronic dinosaurs, which are pictured as coexisting with modern humans before the Fall. According to the article, up to 50 million Americans believe this. The museum has a Web presence in the Answersingenesis.org site.

Einstein's theory that the sun warped time and space crapped on some of newtons laws. I imagine that our precious theories that are accepted today will be crapped on by later generations of theoretical physicists.
The future will laugh at you (And me) for believing in such crap theories.
It's not nice to laugh at other people's beliefs. |

you're right, but i still think its ridiculous to spend 30 million dollars on a museum that has no real artifacts or exhibits..
| quote: | | As you stand in the museum's lobby - the only part of the building approaching completion - you are surrounded by life-size dinosaur models, some moving and occasionally grunting as they chew the cud.Beside the turtle pool, two animatronic, brown-complexioned children, demurely dressed in Hiawatha-like buckskin, gravely flutter with movement. Behind them lurk two small Tyrannosaurus Rexes. This scene is meant to date from before the Fall of Man and, apparently, dinosaurs.....The museum is costing $25m (£13m) and all but $3m has already been raised from private donations. It is strategically placed, too - not in the middle of nowhere, but within six hours' drive of two-thirds of the entire population of the US. |
and the fact that any part of the bible that doesnt add up is just neatly handled like so..
| quote: | | A little licence is allowed, however, where the Bible falls down on the details. The depiction of a wall-sized section of Noah's Ark is based, not on the traditional picture of a flat-decked boat, but one designed by navy engineers with a keel and bows, which might, at least, have floated. "You can surmise," says Marsh. When you get inside, there's nifty computer software telling you how they fitted all the animals in, too. |

For the record, no. Einstein's theory is a generalization of Newton's theory. Relativistic mechanics comes into picture for particles at or near the speed of light or for studying extremely massive bodies. For all practical purposes, people still use Newtonian mechanics because it is easier to use than relativistic mechanics and accurate enough for most systems .The curving of space and time is not limited to the sun. All bodies with mass exhibit that property. But the effects are extremely negligible for smaller bodies.
See, your mass will always increase when you are in motion. That is your relativistic mass given by
M = Mo/sqrt(1-V^2/C^2)
where V = your speed, C = speed of light (186411 miles/sec)and Mo = your rest mass. Every time you drive a car or move about, your mass M will increase by this formula. But unless V is close to C (imagine how fast you need to drive), this effect is extremely negligible and for all practical purposes, you will use newton's laws to study this system by assuming your mass to be constant. :gsmile:

The physics of today has firm foundations on physics of yesterday. Nobody laughs at theories unless they are irrational and unprovable or do not lend themselves to the process of proper scientific investigation. That is why science looks down on religion.
Start giving proofs of creationism and prove evolution is wrong. Then people will believe in that theory. |

I know :conf: I was using the sun as an example. To me, when einstein used the laws of newton to create an entire new idea of an object warping space-time, it is like disproving. Many scientists did not want to believe einstein at first, remember. Same with steven hawking, many did not believe him at all, still some don't. Because these new theories always rock the scientific world, and in the end disprove things.
Many things in science, AND in physics are going to be disproved, especially the new ones. Ok, the basic theories about gravity, probably not.

I don't believe in creationism. I'm just trying to remove the "LOL religion" elitism that reeks in this thread. |

I'd love to goto that. Take some kids too, even they surely would be able to ask some difficult questions (gotta love kids ability to do that).
Once heard on the back of a bus a kid goto his mum [k]"mum where is god?" [m]"he's in heaven" [k]"how did he die?" whole bus killed themselfs laughing :p
Also love how all the catholics I know side step not wearing condoms (mainly poles). Pick an choose... thats the way to heaven. |

"LOL creationism" does not equal "LOL religion".
In my books when someone's blind faith flies in the face of any form of reason or logic, then that person proceeds to label their illogical, irrational belief "science" they are truly LOLworthy. |
