I'm curious if anyone knows if Dragon Naturally Speaking ( http://www.nuance.com/naturallyspeaking/ ) still the best voice recognition software? I haven’t tried it in years, has it gotten better in the meantime. Anyone tried a recent version?

Nah there all still awful, but dragon is still the leader I believe. If you do end up getting it just make sure you have a good quality mic, also don't get angry and yell when it s up and doesn't recognise a word your trying to say... It will just register your swearing as the next few words in the sentence and it will make you do it all again.

Just type... its quicker and less stressful

What's the last version of Dragon you used? I keep hearing mixed things. A lot of people say the latest version works without training it at all, and is much more accurate. My friend demonstrated it for me and produced a document in about 2/3 the time it took for her to type it (including correcting it and adding punctuation she forgot to say), but she's a theater major and has a great voice.

Hm, I am not sure I believe you unless you give me more detail. Like, the reviewers are pretty clear: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/apps/speaking.ars

OK, I've actually used the latest version of Dragon (9.0) extensively. It is the best voice recognition software on the market. It works incredibly well. All the stuff people say about voice recognition comes from the old days, when it was a hassle and annoying. Now it's really not all that hard to get familiar with it enough that you'd double your typing speed by using it. So, yeah, I recommend it.

Cool. Do you have Dragon preferred or Dragon standard?

How long did it take for you to configure it before you were really comfortable with it? A couple of weeks?
