I'm gonna see it for sure, but I expect to be dissapointed. Its gonna be hard to top Requiem for a dream.

Reading Spirit5's responses to this movie and remember reading all his responses to The Binary Universe in the CD Discussion forum make me think that once this movie comes out on DVD, I'm gonna have to play the BT cd along with the movie. =)

Yeah but the movie's soundtrack itself is quite nice. I just bought it today. The track that was played throughout is quite eerie called "Stay With Me". The soundtrack was done by Clint Mansell, and the Kronos Quartet with Mogwai and some of the tracks are a variation of the theme from that particular track. Quite minimalistic and melancholy. If you don't like sad music, it isn't for you, it wont cheer you up haha. Same with the movie, though I found parts of it quite inspiring. The music is perfect for the film, though I think Ulrich Schnauss's music would work very well in it and BT's "This Binary Universe".

It's definitely not a perfect film, but what makes it so good is that it's not just entertaining for entertainment's sake, but is truly a piece of art and was unique. I wish more movies were like this one, even if they aren't accepted by the mainstream. One of the reasons why lately i've thought about getting into screenwriting and directing over psychology, but like I said in an earlier post, I might apply my background in psychology to film and novels. I'm not a perfect writer either. I guess it's the flaws which can make something so surrealistic and otherworldy as this film, seem human. There was definitely a human element in it as well.

I have basically become obsessed with screen writing, and as you have alluded to your desires to do so (or directing) in 3 posts in just this thread I am sure you have a similar passion. Screen writing is something that on the surface seems fairly simple and straightforward, but after seeing an editor for the first time I can assure you it involves so much depth and is extremely difficult. That being said the skill set for directing and screen writing are a little different, so if you aren't a great writer and perhaps enjoy the technical aspects of films more, directing is for you.

Going back to the movie, I really want to see it, especially after reading an interview with the director/writer in a magazine. I guess he has been trying to get this thing made for many years now and in fact rewrote a good bit of it after Brad Pitt dropped the project. I am curious as to exactly how well the visuals worked, as due to budget constraints and anti-cgi sentiments of the director, I guess they went about creating some of the backdrops in very innovative and intersting ways. I guess the space ship or something used a very cool background, which actually was done with time lapsed photos of chemical reactions. Pretty cool stuff.

I definitely am more of the creative type vs the technical type. What I probably am going to do is get a degree in psychology (Masters and eventually a PhD perhaps or not...) and take some screenwriting classes, perhaps some creative writing and directing. After being a pscyhologist for about 10 years, I want to write in that time and hopefully have enough material to start making some movies. I'm not the best writer in the world, but I am certaintly more competent than some other people. My biggest problem is tense agreements, as I start writing in third and switch to first and back to third, not even thinking about it. Haha I didn't start realizing I did that until after a creative writing class my sophmore year in high school. I may not have as big of a problem with that in screen writing though..

I was excited for this movie all year long. Sadly I was disappointed. I loved Pi and Requiem but this movie just didn't do it for me. I don't think it was really the movie Aronofsky intended for it to be after the 6 years of bull he went through with the studios, actors, and budgets.

Actually, I would say it would have to be, as it was solely on his shoulders by the end. Sure he had budget constraints, but if the movie failed, it would be hard to say it wasn't on him.

See I didn't really follow the development of this movie. I only found out about it a few weeks ago during the previews when I saw Borat. I haven't seen Pi or Requiem, so I can't compare this to them yet. I heard they were good films and have read up on their premises. I can tell you that this movie's premise, to me at least, was more interesting and the elements in the film really stood out. Just the emotional and evocative appeal of the movie is what makes it stand out, even if it's not a perfect film. It just gives you a sense of "awe" that I feel is missing in a lot of films, as many follow the same formula.

Haha the music is a combination of violins and cellos, pianos and some light synths and some guitars in the background on some tracks. I bought the soundtrack to it on Sunday. It was composed by Clint Mansell.
