Why is some epic trance recorded at 135 BPM? (pg. 3)

Yeah, just lift the platter up. There's a little screw thing that controls the pitch, just turn it. |
THAT'S WHAT I MEAN!!! PITCH! If it's at a different PITCH, it sounds strange, like when Ferry Corsten mixed Push - Strange World 2000 in Rosenmontags Rave 2001 (after Gouryella - Tenshi). And in other places... I don't like it when the pitch is too low or high... But, it's just certain tracks that are like that. |

| IMO 138-140 is pretty perfect speed for epic trance, most energetic epic stuff should be recorded atleast with that 138 BPM especially if it contains vocals. Some (many?) trance dj;s tend to play over 140 BPM so when you speed up like 135 BPM track to 143, vocals will sound quite afwul but that's just what I think :). Still there are exceptions and some epic songs do sound perfect like with 133-135 speed, it just depends on songs basic structure... |

to proove my point..at every rave the big dj's always spin around 140 or faster:
Armin Van Buuren: 139-143
Paul Van Dyk: 142-145
Johan Gielen: 142-145
Blank & Jones: 143
Dumonde: 142-144
DJ Scot Project: 145
all these were recent sets from this year btw
so the question is: why do AVB and PVD in articular keep recording at 133-135 BPM??? |

No, I disagree, and that's the whole point that I was trying to make.
If you speed up a 135 song with vocals to 143, the vocals will still sound all right, but if you GO THE OTHER WAY and slow the song down, then the vocals will sound awful.
So it's better to speed up than to slow down, and that's why I think most tracks are recorded at slower speeds (135 for instance). |

No, +/- 5 pitch is usually the limit , it really sounds too highpitched (well awful was quite strong & wrong word) with +8 but I do agree that you shouldn't slow female vocals too much, usually more than -3.
edit: basicly it just depends on basic tone of the vocals, some tunes has quite shrill vocals and too much overpitching make it just sound bad but in some cases you can't even hear the difference, still matter of taste mostly ;). |

| why? because thats the way the trance genre is, 90 % of all songs considered classic are 135-138bpm. Also for listening, its much better (for me anyway) to listen to a song at that pace then to pitch a track up like pvd - words for love (or even for an angel) to +6-8% , it just doesn't sound right |

Try pitching Jon The Dentist - Imagination (K90 Mix), or Pants and Corset - Dammit Janet to +5. Sounds amazing, but this is because these are HARD trance tunes.
Other tunes (with a few exceptions, eg. PVD mix of 1998) can sound poor, although it can occasionally work to give the track more energy. |

rofl, since when was imagination ESPECIALLY the k90 mix hard trance?
k90 makes epic, melodic trance, and its nothing hard at all...
last time i checked.. hard = shokkish, sorta darkish, not as happy as melodic style...
examples..
alex barelett - amnesia (flutlicht vs. shokk) thats definetly hard trance..
dj energy - excelsis (shokk remix)
also hardtrance..
you need to get ur terms right  |

LOL..ok, cur of the sewers...
K90, Lab 4, Wierdo, Phil Reynolds, Nuw Idol and so forth are real hard trance, not your horrible SHOKK tunes. To be hard, something doesn't have to sound crude and unpleasant
SO there :p |
