and along comes a fine example of just how narrow, dangerous and tragic the Democratic Party's mindset towards terror is. bravo for completely missing the entire struggle and point. |

The western media tends to make this guy look like the biggest threat... even though he has absolutely NO power whatsoever in Iran, and you are the first person to fall for this 'glenn beck' style bull paranoia |

Quite true, I think:
| quote: | For all the attention the Western media give to Ahmadinejad's foreign policy pronouncements, the reality is that his effective influence is limited to domestic issues. The citizens of Tehran I spoke with, from every walk of life, understood this and were genuinely perplexed as to why we in the West treat Ahmadinejad as if he were a genuine head of state. "The man has no real power," a former Revolutionary Guard member told me. "The true power in Iran resides with the Supreme Leader." The real authority is indeed the Ayatollah Sayeed Ali Khamenei, successor to the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
According to the Iranian Constitution, the Supreme Leader has absolute authority over all matters pertaining to national security, including the armed forces, the police and the Revolutionary Guard. Only the Supreme Leader can declare war. In this regard, all aspects of Iran's nuclear program are controlled by Khamenei, and Ahmadinejad has no bearing on the issue. Curiously, while the Western media have replayed Ahmadinejad's anti-Israel statements repeatedly, very little attention has been paid to the Supreme Leader's pronouncement--in the form of a fatwa, or religious edict--that Iran rejects outright the acquisition of nuclear weapons, or to the efforts made by the Supreme Leader in 2003 to reach an accommodation with the United States that offered peace with Israel. While Ahmadinejad plays to the Iranian street with his inflammatory rhetoric, the true authority in Iran has been attempting to navigate a path of moderation. |
I recommend you all read the entire (quite long) article here:

As for Ahmadinejad? Based on his frequent public comments - especially on Isreal and other western nations - the guy is clearly not quite right in the head. The point is, though, that nutjobs like him are not worth the paranoia they generate (quite deliberately on their part) across the world. Ahmadinejad poses no threat to Isreal and he poses no threat to the west: this is all just chest-puffing rhetoric and we would be fools to be taken in by it.
That is not to say that many of Ahmadinejad's public statements are not cause for concern - rhetoric that bold most certainly is - but it would be stupid to overstate the power he has within Iran, much less the world in general. We'll be fine guys: don't let yourselves get sucked in by his hype. |
