The Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster is the most awesome complete failure ever. The video is so cool.

if you wanna score big on this papper then do some research and write about the failure of the levees in New Orleans.

but i must tell you ... in your papper you will have to convince the readers that the levees gave out not because of the major hurricane but because of the design, construction, and / or maintenance of the levees.

that is where your reseach comes in and if your able to do so then this papper of yours will kick ass :)

hmmm...yeah iwas reading about the levees...i like the tacoma one though, but thanks for giving me the ideas still! :p

Does the brain count as "material failure"? Cuz human error is by far the largest cause of disasters.

Tacoma Narrows was already suggested, and it's a good one for sure.

That SwissAir flight that exploded (allegedly) due to worn wiring in the fuel tanks...would that count?

Titanic might fit just because it was billed as being an engineering masterpiece.

There was also an F117 stealth fighter who's wing snapped off and crashed into a suburban backyard during an airshow.

(sorry about the lack of links, but hope this helps)
