It's that time again. It's WOODY's GUIDE TO PARTING IN MEXICO. Read it, and if you have any questions, just ask.
:D
THIS EVENT IS ALL AGES
Yeap! This event is ALL AGES! But remember, legal drinking age in Mexico is 18.
MEXICAN LAW
Even though Mexico has laws similar to the USA, US LAWS do not apply there. The rule of thumb is, IF IT'S ILLEGAL IN THE USA, IT'S PROBABLY ILLEGAL IN MEXICO. Respect Mexico's laws, you don't want to get thrown into a Mexican jail.
ID, PASSPORT, US IMMIGRATION
Since this event is all ages, you won't need an ID at the venue. However, to cross the border back, you must be a US Citizen, have a US Passport, or have a valid Visa such as a "Green Card." If you are a US Citizen, US Customs will scan your ID upon entrance into the US. If you have a RESIDENT ALIEN CARD aka "Green Card," Customs will scan the Visa. You can also use a valid passport if you have one. Expect to get searched upon entrance to the USA.
DRUGS & ALCOHOL, & COMING HOME DRUNK
Whatever you do, DO NOT BRING ANY DRUGS INTO MEXICO! THEY ARE ILLEGAL. If Mexican Police busts you with any drugs, regardless of the quantity being small or big, they will be HARD on you. Mexican Police does not tolerate drugs or weapons. They will take you to jail even if you have just a small joint. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO TO A MEXICAN JAIL. They are much, much, much worse than US Jails. Legal drinking age in Mexico is 18. If you get wasted in Mexico, and plan to cross the border into the US, good en luck! The moment you see the US Customs officer, US LAWS apply. That means, if you're drunk and you're 18-20, you'll probably get locked up. It also means that if you're drunk and you're driving back, the moment US Customs determines you're drunk, they will confiscate your vehicle and give you a DUI. Walking across the border drunk is different. If US Customs determines you're drunk, they will arrest you and put you in DETOX. They will also fine you.
MEXICAN IMMIGRATION, SEARCH & SEIZURE
Just like the US Customs, Mexican Immigration will do random searches. If you walk across the border, rarely will they do it. But, if you DRIVE into Mexico, be careful. There's a STOPLIGHT on the border, if you get a GREEN light means you're clear to go. If you get a RED light, it means STOP and you will get searched.
PARKING
The best thing is to park on the US side of the border, and walk across the border. There's plenty of parking lots that charge $8-$15 a day. Just take the "LAST US EXIT" and find the best lot that suits you. I park on the one directly straight off the exit as it has it's own entrance into Mexico. The venue should be walking distance from the border. Maybe Shuni or Dancing-Clown can get us a map. I will contact my friends in TJ and see if they'll get us one.
HOTEL
If you plan on getting trashed, get a hotel in Mexico. If you plan on being sober by the end of the show, just get one in the US. There's plenty of hotels on both sides of the border.
MONEY
Don't worry about exchanging your money for Mexican currency. US Dollars are valid everywhere in BAJA! The way it works is like this. If a beer costs $30 pesos, that means it's $3 dollars. The rate exchange is around $11 pesos to a dollar. But to make it easier, most people round it off to $10 pesos to a dollar.
SPANISH
Ha! You shouldn't have a problem communicating with people. In TJ younger people either speak or understand English. Most bars hire English-speaking staff.
TIPPING
Most bar staff in Mexico make a living off tipping. Tip well and you'll get treated EXTRA WELL. Most venues in TJ have waiters/waitresses. Stick to your waiter, tip well, and they will get you almost ANYTHING you need. There's been times when I was hungry and I sent my waiter for Tacos. They'll do it if you ask & tip nicely. They've done other stuff for me that I can't even post here. |

Oh yeah... I forgot... TACOS...
Here's a list of WOODY APPROVED TACO STANDS...
My personal favorite...
TACOS EL GUERO
*This stand is at the end of Revolucion St where it becomes Aguasclientes. They're THE BEST AL PASTOR & ASADA Tacos in TJ. They even make their own tortillas.
TACOS EL GORDO
*This is DJ Faded's Spot. It's a good joint, but no where near as good as EL GUERO. THRAX can testify on this one as I took him there before. |
