I'm a composer and don't do much rmx, but I did a rmx for one of my fav bands and they liked it!

But they wanted me to it up more.

I'm simply remixing the 2 track master of their jam, what kinda weird can I do to just a 2 track?

Thanks.

What are on the two tracks? Vocals and instruments?

Are there many spots where you can hear just one or two instruments playing? If so, you can probably do quite a bit.

nah a 2 trk is a stereo mastered recording.....a simple rip from an audio cd in this case....

weird, they liked it but wouldn't give you seperate parts to the track? ask them for an acapella, drum solo's, guitar solo's, etc....

otherwise you're at the mercy of their finished product
Channel Surfer
they might. I simply did the rmx and they liked it, now imma ask em if they want something better to send me the raw files....

if they use a live drummer - most likely..

what i would do is this...

find the main part of the track. like the defining part. and stretch and warp it till it plays in time with your bpm and to a metronome.

now make two channels with the same track files playing in sync with each other .

cut the lows from one channel and leave it.

cut the highs and mids from the other and apply a sidechain to your kick so it dips the volume of the audio file. - this will remove their drummers kick drum and allow space for your kick drum.

i find this is what i do when playing around with whole mixed tracks..

ah neato, so get the highs from one stereo pair the lows from the other and side chain which one?

thanks, kinda cool.

sidechain the one that is playing the lows(350hz and below). then you dont get sidechaining dips in the vocals etc.

play around with the high/mid and low cuts until you get the frequenci3es just right - and the sidechain is only affecting the low frequencies that interfer with your own kick/bass. it might be useful to split the sounds into three instead of two(or even 4 or five). so the middle one you could use a bandpass filter.

a 3 way eq like steinberg eq1 does the job well.

i double or triple them up on the vst list per track so i get a combined attenuation of 30db/45db (each one is 15db)
