Trentemoller Appreciation Thread

I hate appreciation threads, but this one is necessary. I wasn't impressed and was pretty disappointed with his live PA/set last month, but I would welcome the opportunity again. Anyway, this is not about his mixing, or seeing him live, but about his talent as a producer. I'm serious...this guy is a genius as some of you mentioned in the other thread.
He tackles on so many varieties of edm, with singles and remixes ranging from electro-tech house, to minimal techno, and even ambient, experimental stuff. I thought I couldn't be more pleased with his stormer remixes of What Else Is There? and Du What U Du, but those tunes were nothing compared to what he was capable of. There are rare occasions where I find songs extremely whacked, total minding. I really wonder what goes on in his imagination, because there are two songs in particular that give me chills. Both of these are beyond weird, and the sound samples, melodies, and even vocals incorporated within them are unbelieveable.
The first tune is his remix of The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health. Now, the original is ed up, but Trentemoller took it to a whole new level of craziness. At first it sounds like the typical Trentemoller electro-tech sound updated, but it quickly progresses into something strange. The combination of warped vocals (same vocalist from the Royksopp song?) and quarky, unpredictable melodies is awesome. Everything is uneven, distorted at some points, and the sounds are randomly dropped everywhere. One would think that these elements alone would be horrible and too much to bear, but together, it is an abstract, musical work of art. Even the lyrics are questionably weird:
"Red wine, food for free, a possibility."
"Please stay with me, apples, fruits, maybe."
LOL. Not many can withstand this tune, because it is so out there and ridiculous, but I think it's truly something special.
The second tune, and another year-favourite of mine is his remix to his own production: Trentemoller - Always Something Better. This song is slower, more minimalistic in terms of sounds used, at least I first thought. This one at first may not be strange, but you have to listen closely. This song is haunting....I mean, the opening melody/sound sample used makes me imagine a haunted mansion that's pitch black, with lonely candlebras, flames dancing slowly because of the chill air. The usual electro-tech synths are there too, but it's the electric guitar that stands out. There's so many layers! They're hard to notice at first, but once you hear the song enough, it's hard to overlook them. At some peak parts of the chorus/climax there is a musicbox sound sample layered in the background. I've never heard anything like this..It's really out of place, and it adds so much more to the overall haunting sound. If you block out all the other sounds with your mind, and just focus on the music box, you'll understand. Eerie! I usually hate male vocals, but whoever the vocalist is did an excellent job; they aren't great, but they suit the song perfectly.
This song is a masterpiece. When I listen to it, it plays out like a story: A ghost wandering the halls of the deathly mansion, ends up in his old bedroom when he was living, and finds the musicbox that his ex-wife gave him. He throws it away at the climax of the song, and he says to himself, "There's always something better." I know I sound pretty whacked, but that is the journey that this song took me on.
I wanted to create this topic, to give kudos to this amazing producer, and to share my love for those tunes. I recommend them both! :D |

I think Coincidance was his first major dancefloor stormer, at least as a remixer. I first heard it @ the piknic elektronic in 2005.
Trentemoller was hit or miss for me for awhile. I'm glad he did something different with his EM and his album on Poker Flat because I was getting bored with his remix sound. |

Any music producer who thinks outside of the box and looks to push the musical boundries is someone to respect.

| to be honest im mostly in love with his minimal productions like "Take Me Into Your Skin", "Miss You", "Sunstroke", "Physical Fraction" <--holy , and many other of his older stuff |

Du what u du came out in 04 but I don't think it got much recogition til 2005.
I think I just generally haven't given it much attention because a/ it's too proggy for me and b/ it got overplayed extremely fast. Coincidance is more my style and didn't get the same amount of attention, which I like.
My BF bought Trentemoller's first EP on Naked Music - has anyone heard these tracks? They are among my favorite deep house tracks...they still have the trentemoller sound a bit but just deep deep deep.
Chameleon is also another one of my favorite trentemoller tracks. |

ya 2004 it was. maybe not huge recognition here but many dj's were playing it then too. it did get over played and i dont have much desie to hear it anymore but that doesnt mean thats its not a vey well produced track. one of my faves from him was phsyical fraction |

| To be honest I had no idea who Trentemoeller was until I saw the video posted here on TA, since then I've listened to 'The Last Resort' and the essential mix and he defiantly produces some awesome music. |
