Sell it, buy another one when the price drops and the hardware is more reliable.
First generation system releases are rough anyway. |
Not much chance of "MSRP" prices dropping anytime soon. The word on the street is that Sony is actualy LOSING money on each console they sell. They are underpriced by about $200. Sony is betting on BlewRay and games revenue. The problem is that just like xbox360, ps3 has serious backward-compatibility issues and certainly the price tag is not working in its favor. Furthermore, not many folks have the 1080p (or i)-capable TVs to fully enjoy the graphic experience. Plus sub-par online gaming experience (where MS has upper hand) - it all translates to "not so desirable anymore" factor. The prices have dropped because so many frauds are there, selling vapor plus all the bumpkins who are peddling their 3 days of waiting in line, who spent their monthly income on something they thought they'd make a fortune on - all of the sudden are realizing that not many folks are willing to be the first kid on the block with the console and paying nosebleed price for it. All of the sudden, bumpkins realize that they need to pay the trailer home mortgage but no money left - so they dump it for whatever they can get just to get some food on the table.
So, here is your decision laid out: if you like gaming, keep it - as it sure won't be in plentiful numbers anytime soon. However, there's always a chance that sony may pull a plug on it or come up with less-featured ps3 cheaper, to compete with xbox360, in which case your system's price will drop like a rock.
rant over, g-nite :disbelief |

I wouldnt call the PS3's backward compatibility issues "serious"...only 200 games out of a library of over 8000 have had problems...and those problems could easily be solved with a free firmware update via Sony's online system.
Also, 1080p TV's are rare nowadays, but that could change in 3-4 years. Sony is pushing to make the PS3 a 10-year console...meaning we wont see a new Playstation until around 2017. With that in mind, the price of HDTV's will certainly drop well before then. They are already starting to get popular today, and once more sell, the production costs will drop and the consumer will reap the benefits. |
