cool film i guess. it's unrelated to the 'real' story (or the one Dux claims to be real at least). they edited the story to remove some facts about where this secret tournament took place, tournament promoters, etc.
allegedly, Dux wrote another script, more a kin to the happenings of the tournament, and was going to be another move. he and van Damme were friends at the time, and the script was taken up for 40k, which was like the initial figure, and you get more once the movie is made. Dux was told the movie was cancelled, but it appears his script was used for the basis of another van Damme movie, The Quest, i think, and Dux wasn't given a dime. was taken to court and everything. Dux said he felt betrayed by Jean Claude, as he considered him a friend.
on another note, whether or not Dux was a CIA operative is not something anyone can really prove (not that i believe it). what i do hear from a good source is how much of a good fighter he is. my master in tae kwon do (he is an ex Tang Soo Do practitioner, and a boxer) met him at a tournament once. no mystical secret cage fighting, rather a sanctioned tournament in Canada i think it was he said. what's funny was how he told me the story. we were talking about westerners that beat koreans in TKD, and he just started talking about a fighter he met once, describes him as quite tall, and insanely flexible. the guy won the tournament, his 6 final matches against koreans and won 5 of them by KO. my master then said "his name was... bah... em.. Frank Dux i think. really nice guy. i think they made a movie that had to do with him a few years later. anyways...". he had no idea just how big Bloodsport is, nor how famous JCvD is. heh. |
