haha. the pro evo fanboys are gonna squash you into the ground.

it depends on what kind of football game you want. theres no question that pro evo (or winning 11 as it is also known) is a better game from a technical perspective. no other football game is close to as organic and realistic as pro evo. fifa is still worlds apart. that doesn't make fifa an inferior game mind you, just different. id like the options in fifa combined with the physics of pro evo.

Pro evo.

I never played the two, But I heard a lot of positive things about Pro Evolution Soccer, Its 10x more popular then Fifa. EA tends to screw up there sports franchises by whoring out the EA tracks and such.

I have played with both quite a bit in the past and I used to like pro evo since it seemed more like real soccer to me (or football whatever) but after picking up my copy of fifa 07 for 360 I have to say I'm more of a fifa fan now. IGN tore fifa 07 for 360 apart in its review but I bought it anyways and I can only conclude that the people at IGN dont know about soccer. Fifa 07 improved upon so many things over the previous fifa games I don't really want to get to into it or else I'd end up writing a 4 page review of my own

basically to summarize my feelings:
pros:
+ midfielders are alot more important than they used to be
+ players have alot more individuality (christiano ronaldo is so fast and agile compared to his teammates, henry can put it away like other players only wish they could)
+ the game is harder than previous Fifa versions. In Fifa 06 World Cup I could beat the computer on any difficulty . On semi-pro w I would beat the computer by an astronomical number of goals. Not so with the next-gen version of 07. The first time I played the computer on semi-pro I lost in penalty kicks. Defense is harder to break and as a result the goals are all unique because when you do score its because you did something awesome ie you faking someone off his feet, executing perfectly timed give and go, etc. Nice change from the through ball goal that was so common and easy to score in world cup 06. The score at the end of a game will look closer to a score you would expect from a soccer game.
+ Other stuff like having all those licensed teams, it looks good

Cons:
- The new collision system sometimes causes players to collide then just stand looking at each other for a few seconds before deciding to chase after the loose ball. Also its pretty easy to just run into a dribbling attacker knocking him off the ball and then scooping it up for yourself without getting a foul called.
- Free kicks might be a little too easy to score on
- The commentary is sleep inducing

Neutral:
strikers miss the target more. IGN whined about missing the target all the time and I admit it is harder but comon, its not that hard. anybody who watches real soccer is all too familiar with the sinking feeling in your stomach as your favorite team's striker misses a shot right in front of goal and if it happens every now and then in Fifa 07 too then why whine about it. don't hold the shoot button so long, point your stick at the goal, problem solved.

I'm sure there are other important things that I left out and I know I didn't really compare it to Pro Evo so maybe I'll edit this post later and add that stuff but this game is, in my opinion, the best soccer video game currently available.
Also, as I have mentioned several times, please keep in mind that all the things I said are referring to the 360 version of FIFA 07 which I would imagine to be the same as the PS3 and maybe the Wii version but is different from the rest as far as I know.

is this supposed to imply that calling it "soccer" means you don't know about "football"? which pretty much implies that all americans don't know about "football"? shoot me ffs

I like Pro Evo more because I have always wanted to find a football game as realistic as possible. Haven't touched FIFA in a long time, and probably won't, I'm happy with PES

PES. It just feels better all round.

I did enjoy playing the game EA did for the World Cup, but it didn't feel quite as realistic. And the graphics were horrendous. Haven't touched FIFA 07.

Obviously I'd like to have in PES a lot more leagues, a lot more freedom in building custom competitions (why in hell can't i have a custom cup with home and away matches in the group stage?!), and a less arcadey career feature (i can't stand the made up competitions in Master League, and all the players being reborn), but overall for me gameplay wins over features.
