Thanks for your advices
Media Technology looks nice, but now it seems that it's not really what I'm looking for, it seems to be getting into many things.
I havce a question, is that the general study of media techonlogy, and then on the 3rd year, you can choose whter to be a Music producer, programmer, or just keep being knowing about everything a little?
What kidn of jobs you might get form that, is there a demand for students in media technology?
as someoen said here, if I don't make a living of a music producer, then Ithink Iwould be fine doing something that I enjoy.
Thank You Veyr much for your help. |

I think beeing good of little bit of this and that concerning sound is a good way to start a production career. Its not enuf but combined with alot of efforts and practise like learning instruments, synthesis, arrangment, music theory, synthesis, listening its a great start.
The problem with production educations is that many but not all charge alot of money for a not so serious education. There is a good article on the subject in SOS dec issue. The main point is that alot of people compete for very few jobs.

If one has the ambition to become a producer y not aim for that and if one doesnt become succesful u will still have ur self a meaningful hobby and hopefully a nice soundrelated job thru all the education u have done if u choose a solid one. Thats just my point of view. |

I've just wrote a post on my experiences and knowledge of Media Technology but then saved it in notepad because to be honest I'm a bit confused about what you're doing at the moment. You say you're at law school but you also say you're analysing the physics behind wind instruments? You want to do a course on audio production but you're looking at media technology instead of music technology? You've also been a civil engineer student?
Could you please tell me how long you have studied Law and Civil engineering for? Could you also explain why you're at law school but you're analysing the physics behind wind instruments? I need to understand your situation more! ;) |

Ok I'll explain
1. About the physics of Wind instrument, I am not studying anything related to that.
2. In Law School I have 4 years, so in about 6 0r 8 months I'll become a lawyer.
3. About Civil Engineering, I studied for about 2 years, but then dropped it, I just told you this, beacuse I learned Math, Physics, Chemistry, in this years.
4. It's not that I want to study Media Technology, I open these thread asking for an advice, and someone told me that it was a good idea to study Media Technology, so I wanted to know more about this carreer.
5. Music Technology, I haven't heard about it, is that a carreer I could study as well for production?
Now, I'll become a lawyer, but in fact I'm not so excited about it, but anyways I'll end up the carreer beacuse I'm near to get it.
After I graduate, I want to do something related with music (Especially producing EDM) if possible, I don't have to be the superstar DJ or Producer, I just want to be able making a living with something that has to do with music.
In January I'll join the National Conservatory, so I can learn Music Theory.
Anyway If I sudy somethign with music Production, andI don't make a living from it, then I would still eb happy, beacuse I will be able to learn something that I will keep doing in my spare time, and I have a law degree so I can make a living of something.
Of Course making a livign of music would be beautiful =)
What Career do you recommend me then?
Thanks for your help

Ok, I understand. You're actually in quite a good position then because like you say, you can always go back to being a lawyer (and earn good money!).
I'd still recommend you don't study media technology. You'd be better off with 'Music Technology' or Audio Technology'. There are probably other names for these courses but that's all I know for now. I can't really give you any more information on music courses, maybe other folk round here have studied them.
I've uploaded a video I edited recently, it's 60MB and needs quicktime. It'll show you the kind of stuff we do. It starts off slow and builds up, nothing revolutionary but it's alright I guess. It's a 2-minute promo for a yacht club, please excuse the bad jokes! If you don't have time to download it that's no problem because my dad and a couple of other people want it anyway. http://download.yousendit.com/D677E0CA7D8C9F22
Now I've got to go and study because this is my last week before xmas and the hardest week too!
Hope you find a course you like. :) |

It's not about money
Music is a Passion for me
And I'm already a DJ, have played alongside some of the Top 20 Dj's, and I had and International Gig, but that still doesn't make for a living.
I live in Central America, and by being a Resident DJ in a club here you can't make a living of that.
And for now I'm not really interesteding in being a promoter, I would like to conecntrate on the music itself.
and by making of living of music, I mean to be able to buy food, clothes, soap, toothbrush, and not be worried if next month I'm gonna Eat or not. All of this while staying at the studio and having some DJ gigs. |
