So I need a new MP3 player, i still have my old 3G iPod and its messed up like woah.
Was thinking Zune but I heard you can only upload purchased music via iTunes and such things...or licensed music. Im not sure how that works, especially with Digital stores like BP, but then again who doesnt download music from p2p and torrents. Anyways is this true? I need a new MP3 player, iPod has never failed me but I want a different alternative, really like how the zune looks.
Anyone here have one/used one? |

| i don't know if there is a slow start our store has had 20 for the past week on inventory. The only one we've sold has been to an employee who exchanged his because of a defective unit. |

So you can't upload from your PC? Ok, MS lost another potential Zune customer. |

| quote: | | Songs wirelessly transferred from one Zune to another can only be played three times. After three days, the song expires – regardless of whether or not it has been played. Just playing half the song (or one minute, whichever comes first) counts as one "play." You can never resend a song to the same friend, nor can a song received from someone else be passed on to a third person. These limitations apply to all songs, whether they are copyright free and self-recorded or protected with DRM. Not all songs purchased from the Zune Marketplace can be shared via Wi-Fi with other Zunes. |

Thats the major criticism people have with the Zune. |

should be easily hackable.
i dunno about overriding the 3 day/play limit but there might be some other cool features to come around! |

Look into Sandisk's Sansa E200 series. Beats the crap out of ipod nano. Better functionality, better capacity, flash memory, possibility to expand memory (up to 2 gigs more with miniSD cards), FM tuner included (rather than paying +50$ to add one to your crappod), possibility to record off the FM tuner, microphone (rather than paying another 50$ for the crappod), slightly lower price, possibility to buy extra battery packs and swap them in seconds (for the new ipod models, batteries will die out after a year or two, then you need to send them in and pay up to 70$ to get them replaced because they can't be changed without opening up the ipod). Uploading tracks is just drag and drop. Doesn't work with macs though (but who uses macs anyways!)
Otherwise you could look into Creative Lab's Zen. Pretty good bang for the buck. Again, more and better features than the ipods. The only problem with Zens is that the firmware has a tendency to freeze up. |
