Building a new computer, what do you think?

hey everyone, i'm building a new comp and i wanted to get some opinions on the parts. i dont have much knoweledge on comp parts, just basic stuff. i have some experiance building computers so i know how to put them togethor.
anyway, if anyone could take a look and tell me if there could be some compatability issues or any unforseen problems with the parts i choose, that would be most helpful.
i'm primarily building it for music production, but i always want to be able to play WoW lol:haha:
also, i did not choose a HD, i already have one...
thanks for your help.

edit: i should also mention that i'm not going for the best parts right away, and that i wanted a mobo that i could upgrade with better ram, grfx card, and CPU in the future. also, how would something like this work with the new OS, Vista?
and one last thing, anyone have any experiance with the newegg prefferred account thing? i want to try it but i'm just iffy about giving out my SS#... |

It should all work together no problem.
In regards toVista compatibility can't help you there. May want to consider taking a look at the manual
http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/support.php?ps=424&type=3
They will say if it's vista compatible but really that is nothing more than a marketing gimmick as I think that anything with enough processing power and ram should be running it.
I tested a 3 year old machine recently with the Vista evaluation app and everything seemed fine as far as a potential Vista install. |

hey thanks, one more question, lol...
anyone have any experiance with the EpoX mobos? i originally wanted to get an ASUS, but after reading reviews on newegg, i got the general feeling that people were having ram compatability issues with most of the mobos i was looking at. |

I dont know about this motherboard, It uses the Nforce 570 chipset, Any boards with the Nforce 570 chipset will only support SLI at 8x while with only one video card with 16x, I recomend you get the Nforce 590 if you want to do SLI at 16x. My motherboard is an Nforce 4, But it supports SLI at 16x. I just only have one graphics card.
Here are two Nforce 590 boards you can check out.
This one only has one PCI slot. $158.99

This one has at two PCI slots. $168.99

| why youd go with AMD at this juncture is beyond me. also, yeah that motherboard is pretty old. nvidia just brought out their 600 line of boards, with the AMD variant to follow soon. the vid card is probably the best in its price range. also, i wouldnt buy 1Gb of ram as 1 stick, you should always go the 2x these days. so either 2x 512 or 2x 1Gb. that is, unless youre planning to add another 1Gb soon. |

| Very true, I highly recommend that you go for the Intel Core 2 Duo, They are 10 times faster then AMD right now. |

what is wrong with AMD? sorry, i'm not up on the times in regards to Intel or AMD being the better cpu, and i'm not sure as to where i can find relieable info on the subject.
can you make a recommendation as to what to get that is on par with the AMD cpu i chose? and then a supporting mobo...how do i know if it's old or out of date? there seems to be a lot of choices, and i get overwhelemd with the different products on newegg.
and ya, i was thinking of getting another 1 gig stick further down the line, but i'll prolly get 512x2 now that you recommend not getting a solo stick...
thanks for your input thus far. |

well it depends on how much cash you have. there is nothing wrong at all with AMD, but intel are the faster chips at the moment.
the cheapest intel chip is the intel core 2 duo 6300 (1.83ghz) which is an insane overclocker too. mine will be costing me roughly $249AU. the 6400 is about $70 more. it goes right up to the 67 or 6800 extreme but theyre well expensive.
motherboards, how much cash do you have? if youve got a shiload of money the nvidia 680i is the BEST motherboard on the market right now. theyre about $470AU. theres also the asus p5w DH deluxe for around $350AU. if you want cheaper, the nvidia 650i Ultra (around $200AU) is another contender.
i recommend checking out anandtech for all components youre interested in. great reviews, if youre not a tech head just skip to the conclusion.
as for your ram, theres nothing wrong with a single stick, its just you wont get the advantage of each separate stick being utilised twice. you can always save for another 1Gb later :) |

Also the fact that the Nforce 680i boards will fully support Intel's new Quad Core CPUs. |

no worries dude, but theyre not THAT much more expensive ;) and they'll have a longer life due to their overclockable nature :) theres a really good article on IGN about overclocking. best of luck and enjoy your new gaming rig (even if it really is just for music :p ) |
