Flu jabs. Has anyone had one? (pg. 2)

Fraises
I got mine a year ago. I didn't feel too good for a few days after that, and I couldn't drink as any amount of alcohol made me feel very ill. I was okay after a week.

In any case, the flu only protects you against certain kinds of flu, and there are quite a few variants so you can still get the flu even if you get the jab. It's pretty much recommended for the elderly, or those in poor health. I got it because we were more worried about bird flu last year.

I don't like getting sick after getting the flu shot. I am told by the medical community that it has nothing to do with the the flu shot - but damn, that's some co-incidence - no flu shot, no flu. So, I'll limit my chances of a co-incidental infection and skip the flu shot tyvm!

:haha: I'm also due a tetanus/polio 10 year booster, I may as well get them to do the lot in one go & then sleep for a week

Been offered one from the GP's surgery, but unsure of if it's worth it or not. Anyone had a flu jab (shot is probably the american-english :p) and what was it like. cheers :)

I'm going for mine in an hour! It's basically a really short sharp shot in the arm, really doesn't cause much pain. Lasts less than 3 seconds easily.

I'm type 1 diabetic, so am diganosed in the 'at risk' catergory :p

I possibly have diabetes or something related to it, plus i have liver problems & pretty much tick enough boxes to get one. Jabs don't bug me, it's just whether or not it was worth it.

Well in that case, yes it's worth it, esepcailly with regard to liver function. Some of the colds I get take me longer to get over than other people, and when it goes on for 3 weeks at a time, (as it did last month) it's annoying. Sometimes I get over them really quickly though.

The whole thing is a bit odd though because my immune system was so effective, it attacked and destroyed the insulin in my pancreas :wtf: so why should it have difficulty in attacking a cold?!

We get offered them at work but my fear of needles is ridiculous so I abstain (which is silly I know but I really don't enjoy passing out).

I'm sure I'll regret this is I ever get flu but until then.....:)

Got back from mine about 2 hours ago, my arm still kinda aches! She really jabbed the needle in!

I hold my breath and whince when the needle goes in - odd, considering I inject 4 times a day!! Perhaps it's 'cos I don't have control over the needle!!:)

:nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

I am so lame that reading about the junkies in Ben Elton's High Society made me pass out on the bus a couple of years back.

But then....I did nearly pass out after hitting my funny bone at college last week - no joke!

needles don't bother me that much, esp having had so many dental ones. I tend to just clench my other fist tighter & tighter.

you know something, when the TB jabs happened in school, 2 of the "hardest" guys both passed out. It was quite funny. Then again I never needed the jab, so i didn't have months of being hit in the scab either ;)
