Austin Leeds....

most topics titled "Austin Leeds" on a New York forum are bound to be followed by an "isn't he amazing?!?!?!?!" or something... this one's different... as more knowledgable music fans, not to mention trance fans, do you guys think he sold out?... i'm listening to some of the garbage he's been putting out and can't help but think of the average New York guido whenever I hear a new track or remix from him..... even a year ago he was putting really sick tribal tracks into the underground, and it seems he hit it big with the whole let-me-ride-the-success-of-electro-fused-with-tribal fad.... what do you guys think about him?

I like the stuff I hear he had been putting together personally or with Kobbe, but then again: those works are in my fav gendre. You are right that he is working on different material lately. All gotta pay their dues?

I know what you mean, but he still is a good producer imo. I like Starkillers too.

Isnt Leeds along with Terranova, the guys that are really pushing that sound to the mainstream nowadays? Not really a huge fan of the electro tribal fusing sound as it is... although it sure is popular on Beatport.

haven't really picked up anything by Leeds in awhile, but he used to put out some cool tracks.

thats what i mean though... as far as his stuff with Kobbe and earlier stuff by himself, some of those productions are my favorite tribal productions of all time... "15 minutes" and "land of voodoo", it doesnt get any better... thats why as he associated more and more with this Nick Terranova guy the past year, i think its all gone in the wrong direction, it's made-for-radio electro/tribal that is pseudo-dark, and i view him similarly as i view Rooster and Peralta as well

I really dig Austin's new stuff.... I've heard some of his tracks in big rooms (van Dyk plays tons of their work) and they absolutely kill. If you look at most of what he and Terranova have been doing, mostly every track has two mixes... and Austin's is always the one with that tribal kick.

As far as what these guys were doing a few years ago, I think most DJs are always looking to move ahead or change things up a bit. Let's face it, if you're not one of the big guys, you better be doing something different, interesting or unique or you'll get forgotten real quick. And I think Leeds and Terranova, while it's not the most ground breaking stuff, have developed a really nice, unique sound. People were killing Shiloh in another thread in one of the forums here for the very same thing, and I love their new sound. I've spoken to both Shiloh and Austin about this, and in my opinion, I think they are genuinely excited about thier new stuff and I didn't get the sense that they were doing it for commercial reasons. And honestly, this stuff will never go anymore commercial than a year end compliation.

Lets say that Leeds tribal is pretty sought after in the house/ tribal community. I cant speak for electro community but if the man say that PvD plays his tracks, then he must be doing someting right on both ends. :toocool: Therefore, more power to the man!!! :p

I was talking about this with Markus a couple months ago.. it's unfortunate that the guido's embraced it, but personally I think leeds has a great sound. I don't really think it's him being a 'sell out' per say.. I think he just is enjoying success.. alot of big dj's have had their moments, and maybe its his and the tribal/electro entourage he produces with to shine.
just my .02 :D
