Removing the parking break lock on DVD players

Does removing the parking break lock (the one that requires that stupid parking break sequence) require a component to be hooked up to the in dash DVD player or can the cable just be unhooked from the break?
I've been told I require something hooked up to it but other people say it just needs to be unhooked. I'd be more inclined to believe that it requires something I have to buy for it since it's illegal to drive with the in dash DVD player on and I doubt they'd make it that easy. |

| Why would you want to have it playing while you drive anyway? You're asking to get in a crash. |

1) There is usually at least 2 other people in the car, meaning it isn't something I do while I drive
2) I have a bunch of concert DVDs I enjoy listening to
3) When I'm parked somewhere waiting for someone or hanging out somewhere eating it's nice to not have the hassle of putting the parking break up and down constantly |

1) that is still a distraction
2) audio can be ripped from those dvds, cut and burned on a cd (videohelp.com)
3) that's just pure laziness |

1) Not more than it was already, plus some decks have visualizations which are also distracting.
2) So instead of performing a simple procedure to be able to watch/listen to all my DVDs, I should rip each individual one and then burn them onto CDs? Brilliant idea :haha:
3) No it's convenient and it avoids the tedium of doing the sequence, which doesn't even work half the time and has to be repeated.
Any more brilliant responses? Perhaps one that helps and is full of something other than time consuming alternatives and poor commentary? |

Can you not see why the law is in place though? It's just common sense, come on. |

Why are we always one of the first jurisdictions to have such laws? And many times remain one of the only ones?
The law is dumb because its a huge inconvenience. Put enough cops on the road to enforce dangerous driving laws instead of putting what amounts to training wheels on adult bicycles because we cant trust you when you say you wont do wheelies. |

that is dangerous driving because the distraction can kill either a pedestrian or the driver/passengers. There are hundreds of cases where cellphones have distracted passengers where it resulted in some sort of a collision or death. While i don't really care about cellphone use when driving it is quite obvious that in this case your eyes will be off the road while driving and i'm not for it. He is looking for "convenience" because it is too hard for him to pull a parking break up or it takes too long to rip the sound off a dvd which is just a laziness factor. |

I'm looking for convenience because it's something inexpensive, quick and will prevent future annoyances, which makes perfect sense and is a lot easier than your suggestions because it is a one time fix. You've just got something up your ass about my simple question because you're against it playing while I drive.
When a DVD is on I only have to worry about pressing the next chapter button or changing the volume, both of which can be done without looking at the unit itself. Trying to find a song on an MP3 CD, where there are a few hundred songs is a lot harder to do.
Let's say you had a DVD player at home, one that wouldn't play the DVDs you had because they weren't of the proper region. Would you be lazy if you said you wanted a mod chip for it if it were something inexpensive and easy to obtain? Nope. Would I be stupid for telling you to burn your DVDs again so that they play on that player instead? Yep. |

Oh and to comment on your whole moral rant on people driving while a DVD is on:
Don't preach about it being dangerous to drive while the DVD player is on, I mean considering that the screen has the option to slide down and into the dash and all, which actually makes it easier to get to the heat controls than if the screen were up . Talk about convenient. That way my lazy ass doesn't have to angle the screen down to change the car temp!
EDIT: Found the factory override code to go into a menu where I disabled the parking break check as well as allowed it to let me watch burnt movies and even choose my region :) |

Sorry man, but sometimes you just want to bitch, even when the thing your bitching about has no argument.
You just bitch about stuff for the sake of bitching sometimes. |
