For over a decade, John Tejada has been sharing his electronic sound with the world, touring often in over 20 countries and releasing dozens of records on some of the world's top labels. He now celebrates the 10-year anniversary of his own label, Palette Recordings (www.paletterecordings.com), on Friday, December 8th at King King in Hollywood.
Robtronik presents the special evening at the ongoing techno night called Compression. The line-up for the night includes Tejada and Justin Maxwell playing LIVE together, Arian Leviste (Tejada's 15-year+ musical partner on many of his releases) and flying in for the occasion, legendary DJ/producer Dan Bell (aka DBX, 7th City).
Tejada's 10-year anniversary coincides with his 10th full-length album release: Cleaning Sounds is a Filthy Business.
John Tejada bio:
Normally associated with his peers in Techno from Detroit, Europe and elsewhere in the US and the world, John Tejada has embraced electronic music as a personal frontier, expanding on his formidable resume as a Techno recording artist as producer and remixer, DJ, and label owner. With dozens of singles, remixes, some film and TV work, and contributions to sample CDs to his credit, this recent expansion has born a slew of tracks deeply informed by his uncompromised aesthetic honed over years of diligent production which finds its roots in Detroit Techno but references a far broader range of music, both in and outside of electronic music. His musically formative years were steeped in Classical music, growing up in family of performing artists--his mother a soprano singer and his father a conductor which then widened to include hip hop, DJing and finally, electronic music.
Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, his recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo. Earlier on, his music found release on labels such as A13, Multiplex and Generation R&S. Following on those successes, he established his own imprint, Palette Recordings, in Los Angeles, in 1996, and has enjoyed many years of steady growth and recognition. The label has served as an exclusive outlet for his own prodigious output but has recently begun to expand its roster. He has also continued to record for other labels such as Plug Research, Seventh City, Poker Flat, and others, often in collaboration with 15-year long collaborator Arian Leviste. Alongside these numerous singles, he has also produced thirteen albums (10 + 3 from his indie band, I'm Not A Gun) and four mixed CDs.

Just a few highlights from his career:
- In the age of digital downloads it's quite remarkable that Tejada's big club-hit, '04's "Sweat (on the Walls)" on Poker Flat, has sold over 13,500 copies on VINYL and counting (!).
- His last five 12” releases have sold a combined total of more than 40,000 copies on vinyl.
- Over the years he's worked with Cut Chemist, Divine Styler, The Postal Service, Pole, Figurine, Titonton Duvante, Dan Bell, Klute, Hive, Justin Maxwell, Polar, Jimster, Technasia, Christopher Just, M.A.N.D.Y., Safety Scissors, Kool Keith, Pieter K., Dominick Martin, DJ Abstract, Ultra Red and many others.
- He travels the world all the time and has played in 22 countries so far.
- Various record labels have released his work including Warner Bros., RCA, Sony, Mammoth Records, 7th City, Big Fish, GDI, Groovetech, Moods & Grooves, Organised Noise, Residual, A13, Electric Labelland, Fenetik/Soma, Ferox, Mosaic, Generations/R&S (Belgium), Multiplex (Denmark), Playhouse (Germany), Poker Flat (Germany), Pornflake (France), ~scape (Germany) Tigersushi (France), Sino (China), etc. And a slew of drum 'n' bass labels too such as Commercial Suicide, Krush Grooves, Metaformal, Phunckateck, Socio, Sonikore, and Violence.
- Four years ago Tejada started a non-dancefloor music project with classical guitarist Takeshi Nishimoto called I'm Not A Gun. The band is described as: post-rock - mixing electronic and acoustic sounds in the Tortoise tradition. They have released three albums on Berlin-based label, City Centre Offices.
