I am a web designer slash technician slash god knows what else, but my Linux/BSD knowledge really isn't what I want it to be. All I can really do is setup Apache, MySQL etc. :P
I've got a spare computer here I'm setting up purely for learning purposes. Ubuntu is "apparently" the most popular dist. at the minute. But, every server I have ever used was either RedHat or FreeBSD. Why is this? What is the current standard - Ubuntu or FreeBSD?
Thanks :) |

Latest that I am working with is Suse 10.1 and SLES and they are awesome distros... The only version I have of Ubuntu is Kubuntu which is the live CD... I have worked with Ubuntu briefly on a clients machine and was impressed with its stability but I am not an expert with it. I have never even touched freeBSD either.
Red-Hat is good for learning on but it's so 4 years ago... In my opinion get yourself the DVD of Ubuntu and install that... |
