trance sounds great at home but even better live.
That goes from most EDM except from downtempo/ambient stuff, which is made to please you on the way to work in the morning (my poinion that is) |

| Actually, there is a disturbing trend of over-production going on in a lot of trance music lately. The compression rate between highs and lows gets squeezed so much to make the tracks sound big and bold, the tracks don't leave much breathing space between the frequencies. As a result, when played on a sound-system that amplifies this, you are left with a 'wall of sound' that drowns out harmonic dynamics. |

Yeah, that's always the way, isn't it. As soon as you notice you're being beaten it was suddenly just "messing around" and we're all idiots who don't have a sense of humour. At least have some spine to take responsibility of your actions. |

Dude it has to be loud otherwise how can you feel that kick and bass - you must be seriously listening to the wrong type of trance.
When I play trance I need to 'feel it'........
now sometimes I have to play the Wiggles for my little girl and boy - believe you me they sound appalling loud. |

Thank you Sykonee! That is a good explanation I never thought about. It explains why hard trance like Cosmic Gate still sounds good and melodic trance sounds ugly. I was afraid this thread was going to die because of people arguing over stupid crap. |

| theres a load of bad sound systems even in good clubs these days. The Arches in Glasgow although world famous is VERY bass heavy and suits techno and techtrance at lot more than uplfiting stuf. It takes a DJ to EQ properly to get trance to sound good in the Arches. Whereas at Gatecrasher the "mecca of trance" the sound system is set up purposfully for trance and the sound in there is immense |

It definitely has a lot to do with the venue though... I've heard it sound damn nice and then I've gone home with my ears hurting not sure of half the stuff I even heard. :)
But yes, the "Loudness War" is probably a potential contributing factor... |
