The body of missing CNET senior editor, James Kim, was found Wednesday approximately half a mile from the Rogue River in Oregon, US.
Kim and his family were on their way home from a Thanksgiving get together when their car became stuck in the snow on a desolate side road. The family ran the car's engine to keep warm and then resorted to burning the tires for heat when the gas ran out. After exhausting all means of providing warmth for his family, James set out for help carrying little more than the clothes on his back.
James is survived by his wife, Kati, and two children who were discovered alive on Monday, December 4th and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Saw this earlier, and I was really startled...
I read CNET all the time and watch CNET TV and have seen pretty much everything he's been in, and read almost all of his reviews.
This sucks. I'm going to miss Crave, and of course, his MP3 player reviews on CNET TV.
Rest in peace, James Kim. |

Same. I've been following this story for a while now through digg and diggnation. Really sad to see this end up this way :( |

that's very sad...
everyone should keep even a very basic emergency kit in their trunk. If living/driving in the middle of nowhere on a regular basis, outside of cell phone service, I'd invest in a GPS of some sort.
I forget where I recently read this, but a burning candle will actually give off enough heat inside a car to keep people from freezing to death.
matches, candles, blanket + water will keep you alive until someone passes by. |
