Time to dumb the boards down a bit. I can't take the deep intellectualism of the newest popping candy or amazing lightshows that make me remember the days when drugs formed a hole in my brain.
Instead lets talk art. Specifically art that is meant to create conroversy or at least evoke strong emotional reactions: ie shock art. Kind of like that cartoon of the prophet Muhammed that almost sparked WWIII. I run accross lots of interesting artists for my job and I spoke to one yesterday that inspired me to share.
Fred George: www.fredgeorge.com /www.vulcangirls.com
JESUS AS A SUICIDE BOMBER, was created by Fred George in 2000, prioor to 9/11. George experianced a "spirtual zeitgeist and was compelled to address the ways in which religious imagery; its symbosis, tenants and dieties can be minipulated as toold of propaganda.Link / Fox TV news clip (windows media)
AK-47 Crucifix, Four Meter High Crucifix constructed from AK-47 rifles aggressively challenges the manner in which the Cross has been effectively betrayed, divorced from its original meaning. It is now once again a symbol of war. Link/ Video Link
Any other art lovers out there care to share? I'll share more later. |

She'd prolly like it until you told her what it was. Then you'd have to repent. |

| I like art as much as the next guy and I understand that sometimes art is about pushing boundries and making people re-examine the world they live in but stuff like the Piss Christ to me is cheap, sensationalist crap. There's pushing boundries for the sake of art and then there's pushing boundries for the sake of controversy and free publicity. How does a painting of Christ in piss and blood further anything other then the artist's career? It's seems unnecessarily offensive to me. It's not personally offensive to me, I'm a very fallen catholic, but certainly to others who haven't fallen as far as I have. I'm sensitive enough to other people's feelings to not make art like that were I an artist. I don't know, maybe I'm just not enlightened enough to understand art like that. |

For being made out of piss and blood that's a pretty good painting. I'm impressed. |

I don't understand though...is it a photo of his painting?
Or he covered a crucifix in piss and there's blood around it and he took a shot? |
