Inertia, a lot of ego is evident in your posts...clearly demonstrating the most basic lack of pretty much any martial art out there right now...

I did Shotokan karate for about 6 years, and TKD for about 5. Stopped a couple of years ago when my appendix burst, but I'll go back eventually.

hah. you'd be surprised. don't see how being unhappy about being held back when i earned my rank while a student with less effort and perfection of the art got a double promotion makes me arrogant. but i guess everyone is entitled to an opinion.

i wanna fight like this guy...

Have been the learning for the past 3 years:

Gyokko Ryu kosshijutsu
Koto Ryu koppojutsu
Kukishin Ryu happo hiken
Takagi Yoshin Ryu jutaijutsu
Shinden Fudo Ryu taijutsu
Togakure Ryu ninpo

Learned the first three more than the last three because they have more foundation to build off of. Will probably take me another 3 years of 4 days a week training to get to black belt. Then the really interest training begins :)

Ninjitsu, I did this for about 2 months when I was on vacation in Poland last year. I'm still studying anatomy even out of it, very interesting stuff. Amazing thing is, in fighting, technique and knowledge of the body outbeats force and strength nearly every time.

The movements depicted in that video isn't ninjutsu. Ninjutsu is about taking traditional techniques and strategy and giving it an unconventional twist. From the stuff I've seen, it's actually rather boring compared to the other lineages we are taught.

hell, i train in TKD, and i can admit it's the most mcdojo-ey art, mostly because it is also, as i understand, the most widely practiced art in the world.

I think the global standard of TKD went down when it became an Olympic sport. And I'd have to say that while you guys get a lot of schools that teach a lot of totally impractical stuff, you guys don't have anything on some of the total whackos out there claiming to teach "Shaolin Kung Fu" (check out these jokers: http://www.shaolin-do.com/ http://www.templekungfu.com/). Then there's ninjitsu, of which probably 90%-100% of what is taught is completely made-up in the last few decades.

No thanks to Steven Hayes and his fire, water, wind, earth crap. When he came back from Japan, he essentially dumbed down the kamaes and feelings in order to help westerners understand the material. The Bujinkan organization has, as a whole, deteriorated. Their students are sloppy and sometimes teachers are dellusional. The try and tested techniques that have survived for centuries have been reintrepreted for modern use. Those who prefer their techniques to be taught as classically as possible has joined Jinenkan. Those curious about our lineages are misdirected in the books written by our soke (grandmaster), Hatsumi Sensei.

The key to learning quality martial arts is finding the right teacher and school. 90% of the martial arts schools out there is crap and as a practitioner, it is up to you not delude yourself about your abilities.

The only ninja person whose lineage seems legit...

The art and it's reputation suffered a lot in the 80s and you still have probably hundreds of frauds like this guy running around.

Though with the popularisation of Chinese martial arts and martial arts history (shaolin in particular) there are now even more idiots out there claiming to teach traditional kung fu, just teaching totally made up crap.

true. however, when i say mcdojo, i'm referring to a crappy school with watered down martial arts training. in the case of shaolin kung fu, and most ninjitsu, it's just downright fraud.

while the integration of TKD as an olympic sport is part of the downfall, i don't think that's the entire reason. i train in WTF, ie. olympic style, and still, my master loves showing us punch combos, and lately he's been into using elbows and knees (all of this is actually part of TKD, TKD even has leg kicks). we don't practice sparring with these moves, because i agree that it is a bit dangerous, however, we do practice the techniques for a self-defense situation. iow, i still think it really depends on your teacher. a KO-happy mofo like my master will make you a good fighter, regardless of styles.

on another note... yeah, Ashida Kim is such a joke. first of all, he's from US. second of all, he has mixed a japanese name with a korean last name. third, he put out a challenge to fight anyone who is willing. surprise! there are conditions.

a) if your shoulders are pinned to the mat for 3 seconds, you lose.
b) you get knocked down X amount of times, he wins by TKO
c) his fee as a pro. fighter is $10'000US

the good friends at bullshido.net actually took him up on it. one of them actually got 10k in cash, and took a pic of it, and sent it to Kim, to make him know this was not messing around. Kim pussied out by saying he was not going to fight a steroid-happy kickboxer.

ie. he admitted he'd probably get his ass handed to him.

you can find bullshido.net, it's owner, some of it's forum posters, amazon.com and even wikipedia on Ashida Kim's list on his site, for 'doing him wrong'. what a ing clown.
