If this is true, is one who follows trends laid out before them because of a geniune interest in said trends, and not because they are choosing to be trendy, still a conformist? They were given the choice of conformity; however, they are not conforming for conformity's sake; they are merely conforming out of default. |

yet, a default is just that - a default. There are other choices. The fact that other choices exist makes this partcilar choice a default amongst other ones. Since it's your interest leading you onto the default choice, you are conforming to your interest. You are conforming to the desire to pursue that interest, and choosing not to try other options out - perhaps because you're too afraid and need the security of the trusted default. Interestingly enough, however, people discover some of the better things in life simply by non-conforming to their default interest, questioning it, and breaking away to the new, unexplored territory of a non-default choice. |
