Problem with an ASUS AGP card

Hoping someone can help me out!
I recently got a £26 Graphics card off ebay. According to PC Wizard 2006:
General Information :
Manufacturer : Nvidia Corp (ASUSTeK Computer Inc)
Model : GeForce FX 5500 [NV34.6]
Bus Type : AGP
Total Memory : 256 MB
Texture Memory : 369 MB
Processor : GeForce FX 5500
Converter : Integrated RAMDAC
Refresh Rate (min/max) :60/60 Hz
The problem I'm having is that I simply cannot find specific drivers for this card. The best I can figure out, it's from the V9520/TD series, BUT this card is 256mb instead of the 128mb cards listed on ASUS website.
What I've done so far, is download drivers 81.89 for the 128mb card, and download nVidia's own 93.71 desktop software.
I don't feel like the card is properly running though, as things seems slightly jerky, and Device manager simply lists a "nVidia GeForce FX 5500" - which according to ASUS, simply does not exist! :(
Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to ensure I get this card correctly running?
Many thanks in advance! |

First you want to make 100% sure of what card you have.
Go into
Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>
Look at the Display adapters, right click on the graphic card Properties.
Then click on the tab Details
you'll have a menu that starts with Device Instance id, go to Hardware Ids.
Underneath this list you'll have a set of values displayed underneath that will look like this:
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00F9&SUBSYS_025410DE&REV_A2
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00F9&SUBSYS_025410DE
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00F9&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00F9&CC_0300
The values will be different on your computer! but it will display VEN_ DEV_ & CC_ information
Click on the bottom marking(PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00F9&CC_0300) and hit Ctrl+C to copy the value.
Now google away with that value and see what comes up. This should give you an indication of what model you really have. |

Hey jdat,
Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated. I went into the Hardware Ids and got the following
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0326&SUBSYS_03261043&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0326&SUBSYS_03261043
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0326&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0326&CC_0300
Googling the last one, came up with 2 results...
http://www.google.com/search?source...326%26CC%5f0300
One offered me the chance to download RADAR sync which it claimed would help me "automatically download and install this driver as well as all other needed drivers and software updates. ", so ignored that as generic spamming, and then the other one linked to a Nero burn thread - the hardware id just happened to be in their comp too.
:(
Any more suggestions?
Thanks again! |

| I suggest that you look at the video card while the system is running, To see if the cooling fan on it is working. |

Yep, it is.
I know it's working 'cos I can see images on the monitor.
I think I've just picked up an odd card, but I got it 'cos I needed to have laptop and PC connected to a monitor at the same time.
It performs worse than my ASUS v8200 in 3d Mark 2001 :(
And on 3d Mark 03? A whopping 671. |

you get what you pay for ;)
edit: but yeah, to answer your question. all geforce chipsets use the same drivers. 91.47 (or whatever) is the right driver. |
