Has anyone heard of any Chicane live stuff apart from the palladium 2k set? :thepirate

I liked this set, but I never understood why everyone thought that Chicane, playing all their tracks and overusing the flanger effect was such an amazing performance?!?

OK, I like all their tunes, and I enjoyed this set - but it by no means deserves the legendary status it seems to be getting....

It's only one person (Nick Bracegirdle).

That set is nice but the tracks feel like they're all being played separately (like he's just saying, "Okay, done with that one, here, listen to this now.") So it doesn't feel like a set at all... I still love the set and the tracks and the overall sound of it, but uh, "legendary" -- no.

You're better off just buying his album "Behind the Sun" if you're a real fan. Better quality, obviously, and basically the same and more tracks.

1. Overture
2. Low Sun
3. No Ordinary Morning
4. Saltwater (Orginal)
5. Halcyon
6. Autumn Tactics
7. Overlap
8. Don't Give Up
9. Saltwater (The Thrillseekers Remix)
10. Andromeda
11. Don't Give Up (Radio Edit-Bonus Track)

00:00:00 01 Intro / Nagasaki Badger
01:00:23 02 Halcyon
10:54:40 03 Saltwater (Tomski vs. Disco Citizens Rmx)
21:59:26 04 Don't Give Up (Tomski vs. Disco Citizens Instrumental)
32:53:11 05 Offshore (Original/Disco Citizens Remix)
43:04:64 06 Maharvey
51:58:39 07 Saltwater (Original Cut)

By the way, I'm sick to death of hearing Saltwater. Seems like every DJ uses it as their track of choice for that "calm sound." That or I'm just imagining it. I'd like to think not. I might be, I don't have it listed as a track in any of my tracklists -- but that just may only be because I have tracklists for some 200 of 600 sets. I'm sure the other 400 have Saltwater in them.

And it's just a bunch of tracks played back to back, it's hardly a mixing masterpiece. Might as well buy an album with the tracks on it.

That always bugged me. Any songs can sound great back to back when you fade them both out to the very end and then start up the next one after the crowd's cheers die down. Even Chicane's album though is like this and I always hated that aspect of it. That's probably why I was disappointed with PvD's Reflections album... the tracks weren't "connected" -- they were just being played one after another in a, "I have to put this track on the album" way instead of, "I think this track would be great -right here-."

In other words... 'sets' where you could shuffle the tracklist and it wouldn't make a difference, aren't really sets at all, now are they?

Of course it's a live performance. Do you think that I believe he inserted the background noise of the crowd or something? Just think of it this way: sometimes transitions are amazing -- sometimes you can't tell they are happening because the songs mesh together so well. Sometimes this works great, other times you want to pick up on the subtle change. Whether the transition is good or bad, it's still there, it keeps you in the performance... it'd be like if during a car chase, they all decide to stop at the rest area, and then go back on the road. Doesn't fly with me.

Yes, he does do some transitions, but other times he doesn't. And as a result, it makes the set shorter for me. Hell, I'll give it a quick listen right now and tell you, but honestly, as "transitions" -- these don't really even count. The intros and conclusions of his songs are rather amazing in that they all sound the same (I guess that might not be so amazing.) The start of one can easily sound like the end of the last one. The transition of Saltwater into Don't Give Up is a good example of this.

00:00:00 01 Intro / Nagasaki Badger
+transition
01:00:23 02 Halcyon
-no transition
10:54:40 03 Saltwater (Tomski vs. Disco Citizens Rmx)
+transition
21:59:26 04 Don't Give Up (Tomski vs. Disco Citizens Instrumental)
+transition
32:53:11 05 Offshore (Original/Disco Citizens Remix)
-no transition
43:04:64 06 Maharvey
-no transition
51:58:39 07 Saltwater (Original Cut)

There you go.
