"Saddened" by the death of the man that disappeared thousands of citizens in his own country, tortured thousands more, and yet managed to avoid any prosecution.

Reagan and Thatcher supported some of the most hostile regimes in the developing world, and they're still national heroes. Now that is the real injustice in my opinion.

Sorry for the intellectual topic, but I figured the c0r needed something to counter the banality in here today.

I don't consider Reagan a national hero. He let the CIA get away with supporting the contras. That really didn't phase our nation, though. His VP got elected president right after him.

Thatcher did a lot of harm to this country, her (and the following) conservative governments made a real hash of it, that blair fixed in 97-2000 then lost after 2001's tragedies & the chance in focus on everything. She's an evil woman imo, but regardless, pinochet was always welcome here, for the falklands help i'm fairly sure.

The same is true of Reagan in this country. I'm not sure where their popularity comes from. At least Blair made a real go of it for awhile in Britain... we haven't been so lucky.

As a sidenote, Jeanne Kirkpatrick died the other day. She's the intellectual might behind Reagan and Thatcher's foreign policy -- namely, the person who advocated supporting right-wing military dictatorships that suppress their own people, simply because she theorized right-wing authoritarians would just kill the leaders of any emerging communist movements.

Despite having been VP for Reagan, I actually liked the first Bush a fair amount. Which could explain why Reagan didn't like him.

:stongue:

Blair fixed it :stongue: I loathe the labour party and I hate what it stands for, it encourages laziness it supports a welfare nanny state. The country is in a poor state due to Labour encouraging people to act like barbaric pigs, welfare scroungers, teenage pregnancy, mass immigration ''Welcome to the UK any ******'s welcome''.

Blair & co have made the Uk worse IMO. People who haven't done a days work in their life, get given a free house, they then breed like flies producing little urchin children who they don't give a about, in return the government rewards them for it with cash handouts. Yet people like me who work get stung by the taxman because I have to pay for these lazy bastards.

Thatcher's worst move in the UK was shutting down Industries which made certain area's of the UK thrive. Mind you Labour do the same since they allow big businesses to move certain operations overseas.
