evolution is both a FACT and a THEORY. the fact is that every organism on this planet is evolving from a prior genetic state. the theory of evolution postulates that this mechanism for evolution is natural selection. whether or not we are evolving as a result of darwinian natural selection or some other undiscovered mechanism doesn't change the fact that we evolved from more primative being and that our descendents are also the descendents of the great apes. religious people find objection to this idea because it conflicts with their egomanical view of the universe.

You're preaching to the choir, mate :)

What I'm bitching about is the creationists that attempt to shroud their religious views as science, while their reasoning and methodology is not scientific at all. Even more annoyingly it sounds "scientific" enough for a bunch of ignoramuses to accept it as science, and allow it to be taught in science classrooms.

A more general thing to note is that evolution (mutation plus reproduction plus selection) does not necessarily work toward anything like "perfection." The modern human knee and back, for example, are "poorly made" from the viewpoint of stability, which is why so many problems crop up with them, but they were good enough to "work" (enable the survival of offspring), so they have stuck around to this day.

this is what strikes me as absolutely hilarious about the "intelligent design" concept... what intelligent designer came up with cancer and toothaches? who "designed" the human jaw that can't house all the teeth that grow in it, or your appendix and tonsils, organs that do nothing but get infected and cause you grief? how intelligent is the famously fragile human spine, or the narrow pelvis that makes childbirth harder for humans than for almost any other species? there are evolutionary explanations for all of these, but i hardly think there was much intelligence in designing halitosis, acne and flatulence.

i just needed to clarify ;) in my country more people believe in the virgin birth than evolution. the argument from ignorance is that 'evolution is just a theory' :haha:

:haha: it frightens me that there are people who believe this...

As far as babies are concerned, and others who may be incompetent mentally to distinguish right and wrong, it is clear from both Scripture and universal experience that they are sinners by nature and thus will inevitably become sinners by choice as soon as they are able to do so.

funny website

" Most atheists, therefore, without any objective evidence on which to base their faith in "no God", must resort finally to philosophical objections. And this problem of suffering is the greatest of these."

Who exactly has the faith with no objective evidence? :wtf:

Clearly you don't understand basic logic. You see if you don't have evidence that something doesn't exist then you must assume it does. Hence from now on you may assume that i have four, three-headed penises which are all called "bernie" and speak to me regularly, dispensing valuable life advice.
