Hi all, I need some help in buying a midi keyboard. My budget is about 300 USD and it's mainly used for producing, although good controls to Ableton and other music software would be nice. I've been reading midi keyboard articles around the web and I'm thinking about buying,
M-Audio Oxygen 61

Any other recommendations? I've never bought one before so I'm totally new to this. Thank you kindly. |

Ah yes I checked but my search of keyboard threads leads to one too many and many off topic. Always nice to know another kenshin fan on the boards though. |

Yup definately have a look at Axiom 61, offers everything same asoxygen with added semi-weighted keys, 8 triggers pad to trigger samples etc and a shiny sexy new black look lol. I was going for oxygen myself but then ordered an axiom 49.

novation x-station 25 all the way. it costs a little more, but that little thing is nuts. plus it's super flexible. wall wart powered, battery powered, usb powered... it comes w/it's own sounds so you don't always have to have it hooked up to your comp or something, just hear stuff. more knobs, and sliders, than 3-4 people can shake a stick at. no pads, like an mpc tho... but this is still one extremely serious midi controller. |

Hey all thanks for the replies, always appreciate input and suggestions whatever they are.
Damn I thought 300 USD was my budget but after checking our your recommendations I did a bit more research. Geez, one thing that really sold me was nec's recommendation on M-Audio Prokeys. A midi keyboard with a piano feeling is a new high on my priority list. Yikes, 450 USD though is kinda pushing it.
Novastation looks fun...like I could play with that thing for years and years and not get board. It's hard to get that piano feel with only 2 octaves.
One thing that everyone seems to agree on is to get an AXIOM61 instead of the OXYGEN61. I think I'll make my decision before the new year. I'll let you guys know. Thanks again guys. |

yeah, i know it's hard to get the true piano feel w/the x-25. i went w/the x-25 because of it's size. there are larger versions of this keyboard. i think one is a 49-key version, and the other one is a 61 key version. |
