I was just wondering how many of you believe that if you die in a dream you actually die in real life? I'm not that superstitious, but I guess this one still kinda gets me.

Last night I had this really wierd dream that I was at some hotel with virtually everyone I know and there were these ghosts there that really wanted to kill me. I kept trying to get away, but they would enter other peoples' bodies and turn them against me. I was constantly on the run. It really freaked me out to the point where I woke up numerous times through out the night b/c I didn't want to die! I barely got any sleep...at least good quality sleep.

What do you guys think? Truth or myth? Should I be afraid of dying in my sleep? Have you ever died in your sleep?

well according to most dream readers dying in one's sleep doesnt mean the person will die for real

as most of the stuff we dream usually means almost the opposite

oh and there is a movie coming out with Sandra Bullock who dreams that her husband dies, and then wakes up and finds him alive, and then back to him dead the next morning, the trailer looked pretty interesting!

I have gotten very close to death multiple times in my dreams... but I always wake up right before the final blow.

If your in REM sleep (where dreaming takes place) you actually are paralyzed , this might explain it.

Ya...I knew that! That's what I was afraid of going into last night. I didn't want to go into REM sleep b/c I thought if I died my subconcious would take over and tell my body I was dead. So I spent most of the night half awake - and thus didn't a good nights rest.

REM sleep is not a choice.

Isn't REM when you fall into a deep sleep? So if I purposely don't fall into a deep sleep I wouldn't be in REM sleep? I don't know details about how sleep works...but I remember a class about it in high school. REM sleep is good quality sleep - when your body can rejuvinate itself is it not? So like if I take a nap for example, but don't feel well rested afterwards it may be because I wasn't in a deep enough sleep (i.e. REM)

I'm sure you know more about this than me RJ. Could you enlighten me?

I know what REM stands for, but that doesn't really answer my question anyway.
