Here is a sample of a new production of mine that I have just started, I've been producing sort of on and off for a couple years and have just now started doing it more seriously. I just wanted to get some comments on this track in the early days of production so I can start it well rather than make the whole thing and have to change everything. The main thing I wanna know here is if the beats sound alright (particularly the strength of the kick), if they have that nice filled out sound.

the kick is WAY too quiet on my monitors.. it sounds like it's lacking some low EQ, so adding a bit of that will help it hit harder as well... |

ok well let's see...
first thing that jumps out at me is that it's really muddy. the mix is not clear, the individual instruments need thier space, and it just sounds like everything is mashed togethor i suppose.
second, the drums sound ok, but bland, again there is muddiness and part of that is from the kick clashing with the lower frequencies of the other instruments.
third, to me, the synths sound dry and average...work on programming better patches...what synths are you using btw?
there is a lot you can do to clean up the mix to get a better sound overall.
these are just a few things that i feel could be improved, take what you will from it, keep working. |

and he is right about the kick being hardly audible, it's being buried in all the other sounds, i can suggest sidechaining :D |
