I know these still exist, and I've been lucky enough to find out about 1 or 2 in the few months since I started going to school in the Bay Area.
My purpose is twofold:
First, I want to comment that these have been by far the BEST parties I've been to anywhere. I think it's a shame that more and more things are getting pidgeon-holed into happening only at certain clubs, and people only care about the big name DJ's and a well-stocked bar and the amazing lighting/sound of the big clubs. That's all nice on occasion, don't get me wrong, but it's getting old. For someone like me, who isn't old enough to have lived through the glory days of the rave scene but who came into this music always wanting that kind of scene, it's a breath of fresh air. Clubs are so restricting in so many ways, it feels like a concert, the social atmosphere is completely different. For those of you who keep involved in the more underground side of things, thank you for keeping it alive enough for me to get here, I look forward to joining you more. For those of you who keep to the clubs, I encourage you to broaden your horizons.
Second, the parties I've gone to have just been lucky that friends of mine have known about them, or heard from a friend of a friend. If anyone has info about upcoming events(raves, parties, legal or otherwise, I don't care as long as the music's good and so is the atmosphere), or knows how I can get in the loop of what's going on more regularly, please send me a PM. Good info line numbers or mailing lists or the such especially welcome. By no means am I asking you to advertise them all over the place if you don't want to, but I LOVE that scene and would appreciate your help. |
